Ionia Daily Sentinel, 25 Oct 1906

Mrs. Elizabeth McDermand, aged 75 years 5 months and 2 days, died Friday, 
October 19, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. P Schoeni.  Elizabeth Coon was 
born in Ithaca, Tomkins county, New York, but moved with their family to Canada 
when a very young child.  At the age of twenty-four she was married to James 
McDermand in Port Verbal, Canada.  They moved to this village thirty-five years 
ago where she has since resided.

Her husband died in 1891.  She was the mother of four children all of whom are 
living Mrs. Cynthia Schoeni, Peter McDermand, Mrs. Deborah Ludwick and Mrs. 
Rachel Dodson.  She was an earnest Christian beloved by all who knew her and 
during her long illness was very patient in her suffering.  The funeral 
services were conducted by Rev. Charles Hayward, Sunday afternoon, at the home 
of J. P. Schoeni and the remains interred in the family lot in the west side 
cemetery.  Mr. and Mrs. Peter McDermand and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brayhlon, of 
Greenville, and Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Ludwick, of Vestaburg, were here to attend 
the funeral.  Mrs. Brayhlon is a granddaughter of the deceased.
