Kennedy Dead. City’s Longest-Time Pioneer Resident Enters Portals of Peace. At half past eight Saturday morning, September 11th, 1915, Mrs. Eliza A. Kennedy heard the welcome summons of her Lord and entered into rest. After a long life of Christian service she was rounded into perfectness by months of pain and patience, until at last the hour of high reward arrived. In her home-going, Ionia loses one of its heroic and highly esteemed pioneer residents, the Presbyterian church a valued member of over fifty-eight years standing, and her large circle of personal friends, an associate bound to their hearts by many ties. The hearty sincerity of this good woman, the spirit of laughter always contagious, will ever be recalled by those who knew her best. Mrs. Kennedy was born at Niles, Cayuga County, New York, Feb. 1, 1834. At the age of ten years she came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Moseman, to Ionia, and has lived here continuously since that time, a period of over seventy-one years. In this particular she probably has no contemporary in city or county. She was married on Sept. 24, 1856, to Mr. James Kennedy, who died Aug. 31, 1901. To this union four children were born, of whom Mrs. Harriet K. Nichols and Dr. Henry J. Kennedy, both of this city survive. Mrs. Kennedy has lived in her home at the corner of Rich and Summit streets in this city for over forty-five years. On March 2, 1857, she made a public profession of religion by uniting with the Presbyterian church of this place, and by a consistent life and many deeds of unobtrusive charity, she honored the name of her Master, Jesus Christ. The funeral service will be held at the family residence on Monday, Sept. 13, at 2:00 o’clock p.m. Friends will kindly omit flowers. Servant of God, well done. Cease from this world’s employ; And while eternal ages run, Rest in thy Savior’s joy.
