Holliday, of Saginaw, passed away on his 96th birthday, April 12, 2005, in Ionia at Heartland Health Care Center. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Earl Wellington Holliday was born April 12, 1909, in St. Charles to George C. and Sarah (Robinson) Holliday. Earl graduated from St. Charles High School in 1929. He married Ruth Osborn on July 14, 1935 at Ames United Methodist Church in Saginaw. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2001 after 66 years of marriage. Earl was a long-time member of Ames United Methodist Church where he and Ruth sang in the choir for many years. He was very active in Ames Men’s Club, years later was president of Ames Retirees Club and received numerous awards for his volunteer work with the city Rescue Mission. Earl was a wonderful and devoted husband, and a wonderful father and role model to his sons, Curtis and David. He and Ruth loved to sing, play the piano and dance and were members of several dance clubs in the Saginaw area. Earl, with the help of his father and siblings, built a cottage in Lake City. After retirement from Lieberman Trunk Company of Saginaw he was able to spend many wonderful summers at his cottage. Having spent 60-some years on Bond Street, Ruth and Earl moved to green Acres. With Ruth’s passing, Earl resided at Shattuck Manor of Saginaw, which he enjoyed very much. Surviving are both sons Curtis (Rosemary) Holliday of Fort Worth, Texas; David (Cindy) Holliday of Ionia; six grandchildren, 12 (three more on the way) great- grandchildren; sister Oleta Krause of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Barbara (Steve) Scott of Citrus Springs, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth; his parents; sister Mary and brother Elwood. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday at Ames United Methodist Church, 2015 Hanchett, Saginaw, with the Rev. Mark Karls officiating. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
