He married in Sept. 1866 Miss Harriet Clarke. A few years after their marriage he came to America locating in Odessa. In 1871 he sent for his family and they soon joined him. Here he lived the remainder of his life with the exception of a few years in Milbrook and a few months on Lake Odessa. Mr. Haziel joined the U. S. navy when the Civil War called for the services of its loyal citizens, and as Mr. H. had become one by adoption he readily answered the call. He was on board the Minnesota which got stuck on a sand bar at the time of the great battle between the Monitor and Merrimac. Mr. Haziel has always been a hard working man and enjoyed good health until about six months ago and since then strength seemed to steadily fail. He however kept up until Tuesday when he went to bed never to rise again. He died Friday night June 22 at the home of his son Alfred, where he and Mrs. Haziel had been staying awaiting the repair of their own home. The funeral was held at the Cong’l church Monday, the pastor Rev. Jones officiating. The remains were laid to rest in Lakeside cemetery. Besides the wife he leaves eight children to mourn their loss, George, Alfred, Charles, William, Oliver, Mrs. Hattie Blackman, Mrs. Anna Shadock and Mrs. Ida Stalter. Nearly all of whom live in this vicinity, one living in Portland and two in Lowell.
