Hansknecht, 84, of Ionia, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2003 at Metropolitan Hospital. He was born at home on June 7, 1918. He was a retired American Seating employee and a well-known upholsterer. He loved big band music and reminiscing and you could always find dad in the garage tinkering. He was the son of Frank and Francis Hansknecht and a proud World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha; his son, Robert Paul Hansknecht; and his grandson, Terry Andrew Hansknecht. He is survived by his son, Anthony F. Hansknecht, and his fiancee Lise Shook; stepdaughter, Beverly and Elwin Hall of Ionia, seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Dykhouse and Rita Johnson; brother Frank and Helen Hansknecht. He is also survived by his little dog and best friend, Lady. His family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Memorial Alternatives, 2423 Fuller Ave. NE.
