Born April 27, 1905, in Montcalm County, he was the son of Lemuel and Rae Gladding. He attended Shanty Plains School. He was married to the former Ivah Maus in July 1931; they moved to Lyons that year and have lived there since; she survives. He was chief steward at A.O. Smith Inc. when he retired in 1970, was a former Lyons village council member, and a member of Lyons Baptist Church. Surviving besides his wife are a son, Jack Gladding of Muir, and a daughter, Lois Lawless of Gladwin; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three brothers, Estel Gladding and Paul Gladding of Lyons and Lemmie Gladding of Ionia; and two sisters, Helen Fell of Muir and Mabel Hudson of Apache Junction, Ariz. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. from the Lyons Baptist Church, with the Revs. Paul Carmichael and Richard Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Lyons Cemetery. Visitors may call at Hull Memorial Chapel, Muir, until noon Monday. A memorial has been established for Lyons Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home.
