Gammons, age 94 of Ionia, went into the loving arms of Jesus on June 7, 2006. She was born near Paris, MI. to Gustave and Rosetta Raad. She moved to Big Rapids to attend high school and county normal and became a teacher. On July 1, 1935 she wed Dr. Lloyd O. Gammons. She helped put him through Chiropractic School and was his receptionist for many years. In 1973 they retired and moved to Ionia to be near their daughter and grandchildren. Mildred loved her family, was a blue ribbon knitter and knitted countless beautiful articles for her family. She played the organ and piano in church for over 75 years, and loved sending cards to family and friends on their special occasions. She also volunteered at the Commission on Aging for many years. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Marvel Windquist, infant Bernice and her loving husband, "Doc.” She is survived by her daughter Gayle (Ron) Stevenson and a son, Larry Gammons; 5 grandchildren: Lee Stevenson, Kimberly Alejos, Jeff (Sarah) Stevenson, Jill (Steve) Adolph and Jodi (Dan) Bartels; special friend, Carl Jennings; 13 great grandchildren. The Religous Service will be conducted by Pastor Darren Tharp at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, 405 N. Jefferson St., Ionia. Interment will follow in Balcom Cemetery, Ionia. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Ionia Chapel, 220 Rich St., Ionia and one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Saturday.
