Baxter with the Rev. Dunbar of the Ionia Methodist church officiating. Mr. Baxter's early life was spent in this community, but later he went to Grand Rapids, where he lived and where his family was raised. About six years ago he came here to live, residing in the Fred H. Baxter farm home west of the Center school and now owned by Earnest Baxter. Living alone as he did , a few weeks ago he decided to buy the small library building which is located on Main Street here and live there where in case of sickness or bad roads he would not be alone. About four weeks ago he moved in and his daughters from Grand Rapids came out with their electric sewing machine and made curtains and fixed his little home up very cozy and Mr. Baxter was indeed happy but the happiness was not to last. He dropped dead last Thursday night and it was about 18 hours before he was found. He leaves six children, Mrs. Frank Malone, Mrs. Joe Hendler, Mrs. Henry Hopp, Harlo and Lyle all of Grand Rpaids and another son, Fay, who resides in Wabash, Minn. and 11 grandchildren. The three sons and three sons-in-law acted as bearers. Interment was in Palo cemetery.
