Lester, 40, of Garden died April 26, 2000, at her home. She was born Feb. 10, 1960, in Manistique, the daughter of Lee and Nancy (Jensen) Boynton and moved to Harbor Beach as a child. Following graduation from the Harbor Beach Community High School, she returned to Manistique and then moved to Garden in 1990. On Aug. 22, 1992, he married Michael J. Lester in Manistique. Patricia was a homemaker who enjoyed crafts, yard work and cooking. She is survived by her husband, Michael; a son, Shaun Peterson of Garden; her parents, Nancy and Lee Boynton of Harbor Beach; brothers Tommy Boynton and his wife, Barb, of Garden, and Russell "Rocky" Boynton and his wife, Roni, of Harbor Beach; sisters Carrie Dekoski and her husband, Ken, of Ruth, and Robin Boynton of Harbor Beach; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Ty Vernon and Cory Lee. Funeral services will take place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000, at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique with the Rev. Fr. John Martignon officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery at Manistique. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home. John Blome John Gustav Blome, 70, of Indian River, formerly of Pigeon, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2000, at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, Pigeon. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and from noon until the time of services Sunday at the funeral home. A complete obituary will appear in Sunday's Huron Daily Tribune. Irene Masa Irene Alice Masa, 80, died Wednesday morning, April 26, 2000, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born Dec. 6, 1919, in Harbor Beach to the late Frank and Theresa (Jocke) Koss. Irene lived in LaHalabra, Calif., for 23 years where she was co-owner of A & A Athletic Supply. She moved back to Huron County in 1965. On April 13, 1966, she was united in marriage to Frank Masa in Las Vegas, Nev. Frank preceded her in death only six months ago, on Oct. 29, 1999. She was employed as a custodian at Laker High School, retiring in 1988. Irene attended St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon, and liked to knit, crochet and read. Her sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her. Surviving are her son, Arthur Luczynski and his wife, Ann, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two grandchildren, Lori and Melissa; three sisters, Rose Campbell of Bad Axe, Elizabeth Grosbowski of Linwood, and Grace Herron of Florida; her brother, Clarence Koss of Harbor Beach; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000, in the Riverside Cemetery Chapel, Elkton, with burial to follow next to her husband. Visitation will be after noon Saturday at the cemetery chapel. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton. Ella Ackerman Ella E. Ackerman, 89, of Ubly died Tuesday morning, April 25, 2000, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Bad Axe following an extended illness. She was born on March 18, 1911, in Bingham Township. She was the daughter of the late John and Ella (Scott) Martin. She was a 1930 graduate of the Ubly Schools. Later she attended the Huron County Normal College. Miss Ella Martin and Mr. Harold Ackerman were married on June 15, 1935. The couple was married more than 56 years before his death on Dec. 26, 1991. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Ubly. She was a teacher for a while at the Batie School and the Dawn School in Verona. She also was employed at the Bad Axe Grain Co. and Ackerman Bookkeeping Service in Bad Axe. Surviving are one son, Donald H. Ackerman and his wife, June, of Ubly; three grandchildren, Pamela Wieske and her husband, Jim, of Holliday, Fla., Mark Ackerman of Bad Axe and Traci Manning and her husband, Mike, of Fort Gratiot; and two great-grandchildren, Justin Ackerman and Jessica Manning. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter T. Martin and Howard J. Martin. According to the wishes of the family, a private graveside service will take place at Verona Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ubly Presbyterian Church and mailed to the MacAlpine Funeral Home, 302 N. Hanselman St., Bad Axe MI 48413. Mary Buchanan Mary L. Buchanan, 71, of Caro, formerly of the Bad Axe area, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at the Bay Medical Center in Bay City following an extended illness. She was born on April 10, 1929, in Ellington, daughter of the late Charles and Jeannette (Ferguson) Doerr. She married Donald C. Buchanan on June 5, 1947, in the Bad Axe Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Buchanan was a member of the Cass City High School Class of 1947. She was a nurse's aide at Huron Memorial Hospital and the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She also worked in retail at Dibble's Dime Store in Caro, and received numerous awards as an Avon sales associate. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the hostess for the Lincoln Road Dancers of Bay City. She is survived by her husband, Donald C. Buchanan of Caro; a daughter, Diana J. Buchanan of East Lansing; two sons, Donald M. Buchanan and his wife, Lou, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Daniel C. Buchanan and his wife, Barbarann, of Bad Axe; seven grandchildren, Denise Kinney and her husband, Trevor, of Bad Axe, Brian Buchanan of Bad Axe, Melissa, Jennifer and Amanda Buchanan of Phoenix, Ariz., and Michelle and Benjamin Leudeman of East Lansing; a great-grandson, Colin Kinney of Bad Axe; a brother, Henry Doerr and his wife, Mary, of Mayville; and two sisters, Evelyn Tuckey of Cass City and Dorothy Shue and her husband, William, of Burton. He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Albert and Dorus Doerr; and a sister, Marjorie Jones. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe with the Rev. Duane Miller, pastor of the Caro United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the McTaggart Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. today, from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Francis Hall Francis T. Hall, 70, of Bad Axe and formerly of Pigeon, died Wednesday morning, April 26, 2000, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe following an extended illness. He was born Sept. 27, 1929, in Bad Axe, son of the late Franklin and Charlotte (Armstrong) Hall. Francis helped around the family farm when he was younger. He enjoyed playing records and listening to music. He is survived by a half-brother, Jack Armstrong and his wife, Eunice, of Bad Axe; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Howard and Willard Hall; and two half-sisters, Lula and Ola Toner. A memorial service will take place at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2000, at the Bad Axe First Presybterian Church with the Rev. Jan Dykshoorn, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Colfax Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church or the charity of the donor's choice. MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe is handling arrangements. Wina Schulz Wina I. Schulz, 67, of Sebewaing, a retired beautician, died Monday, April 24, 2000, in Saginaw. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Dinkel- Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. Vera Ferguson Vera Ferguson, 83, of Snover died Friday, April 21, 2000, in Columbia Blake Medical Center, Bradenton, Fla. She was born May 30, 1916, in Lamotte Township to Charles and Blanche (Travis) Hirsch. She married Gordon H. Ferguson on June 10, 1940, in Bowling Green, Ohio. He died Sept. 4, 1996. Vera worked for Walbro for 10 years. She was a beauty operator in her home for many years. Vera and her husband wintered in Bradenton for 29 years. She loved to golf, travel play cards and dance. She was a beautiful seamstress. Vera enjoyed mowing her lawn. She loved to bake, creating tasty and beautiful dishes. She attended Argyle United Methodist Church, Argyle. Vera is survived by her son, Harold MacAlpine and his wife, Barbara, of Snover; grandchildren, Dennille Horne and her husband, Mike, of Cass City and Jason MacAlpine of Snover; great-grandchildren, Brandon Horne, Cierra Leiterman and Ashley MacAlpine; nieces, Sandy Wheeler of Sandusky and Normalene Nevarro and her husband, Cecil, of Snover; nephews, Bill Wheeler and his wife, Kathy, of Snover and Jeff Wheeler and his wife, Kathleen, of Carsonville; aunts, Vera Hirsch and Eva Hoagg; Gordon's brothers, Don Ferguson of Pontiac and Judd Ferguson and his wife, Velma, of Pontiac; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; and her sister, Marjorie Wheeler. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2000, in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City, with the Rev. Jean Rencontre of Argyle United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Elkland Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. tonight and 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Rose Klinefelt Rose Klinefelt, 90, of Sandusky passed away Sunday morning, April 23, 2000, at Courtney Manor Nursing Home in Bad Axe. She was born on April 19, 1910, in Detroit. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Rose (Molner) Balint. Rose moved to Bad Axe with her family as a young girl. Miss Rose Balint and Mr. Cliff Klinefelt were married in 1938. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1988. He preceded her in death in 1990. They managed the H.J. Smith Store in Sandusky for many years. They also owned and operated a Laundromat in Sandusky and Harbor Beach until their retirement. Rose is survived by her brother, Steve Balint and his wife, Margaret, of Bad Axe; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathleen; four sisters, Julia Kervin and Cecilia Balint, both of Bad Axe, Ethel Edwards of Caro and Teresa Mills of Fenton. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe with the Rev. Jack Leipert, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Bad Axe. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Maxine Nowak Maxine E. (Borgman) Nowak, 69, of Caseville and formerly of Davison, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw due to complications of a stroke. Maxine was born Feb. 11, 1931, in Thetford Township, the daughter of William and Charlotte Borgman. She married Raymond A. Nowak on May 26, 1966, in Mount Morris. Mrs. Nowak was a member of the United Auto Workers Local No. 326 and retired from Ternstad in 1985. Maxine is survived by her husband, Raymond; daughter Charlotte Mozader and her husband, Michael; stepson Richard Nowak and his wife, Lynne; her mother, Charlotte Borgman; and grandson, Ryan. She was preceded in death by her father; her brother, Eldon Borgman; and her stepson, David Nowak. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 E. Davison Road in Davison. Pastors David and Alma Harbin will officiate. Burial will be in Thetford Township Cemetery. Raymond Ignash Raymond (Pete) Ignash, 69, of Port Austin died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at his home. He was born on Feb. 18, 1931, in Port Austin, son of the late Steven and Helen (Strozeski) Ignash. He and Barbara Stone were married on Aug. 2,1974, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville. Raymond was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin and of the American Legion Frank Horetski Post No. 499 in Port Austin. He enjoyed spending his time repairing bikes and lawnmowers. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sisters, Katherine Peyok of Kinde and Theresa Wisneski and her husband, Felix, of Florida; two brothers, Alfred Ignash and his wife, Blanch, of Eastpointe and Alger Ignash and his wife, Irene, of Warren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Ignash and Beatrice Bolda; and one brother-in- law, Raymond Bolda. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. The Rev. John Killop will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A parish scripture service will take place at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Harold Threlkeld Harold Jerome "Jerry" Threlkeld, 68, of Harbor Beach passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 23, 2000, of an apparent heart attack. Born in Macomb County on Aug. 27, 1931, he was the son of the late Brownie and Beaulah (Doke) Threlkeld. Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving four years in the early 1950s. He and Ruth Tuck were married on Sept. 24, 1955, in Angola, Ind. She preceded him in death in 1966. He was an avid bowler, being on teams in Harbor Beach and Bad Axe. He was a member of the Port Hope Retirees and of the Burhans-Hagedon Post No. 197 of the American Legion in Harbor Beach. Jerry is survived by a daughter, Darlene Moshier of Marlette; four sons, Harold of Columbia, Tenn., Thomas of Bellingham, Wash., Eric of Paoli, Ind., and Dan of Temperance; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Livesay of Royal Oak and Julie Hendrick of Orchard Lake; and by a stepson, John Hart of Goodrich. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2000, in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, a Golden Rule Funeral Home. The Rev. Mark Girardin, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, will officiate. Cremation will follow at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City with interment in Lakeview Cemetery, Port Hope. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from noon until the time of services Friday at the funeral home. Robert Long Robert J. Long, 79, of Harbor Beach passed away Friday, April 21, 2000, in Mercy Hospital in Port Huron following a short illness. Robert was born on May 4, 1920, in Harbor Beach, the son of the late Charles and Helen (Pranke) Long. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II serving with the Squadron E Fighter 901st Army Air Force in Orlando, Fla. Robert and Neoma Kaufman were married on April 30, 1942, in Bowling Green, Ohio. Following his discharge from the service, he farmed in Sand Beach Township and was employed by Active Industries in Elkton for 31 years. He retired in 1985. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach, the American Legion Post 197 of Harbor Beach, the VFW Post 9344 of Harbor Beach and the DAV. Robert is survived by his wife of 57 years, Neoma Long, of Harbor Beach; two sisters, Dorothy Brown and her husband, Fred, of Saginaw and Esther Bebertz and her husband, Sanford, of Bridgeport; a brother, Kenneth Long of Harbor Beach; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2000, at Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach with the Rev. Mark Girardin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Falls Cemetery, Harbor Beach with military graveside services conducted by the American Legion and VFW posts. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach (A Golden Rule Funeral Home) and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Zion Building Fund. Ward A. Tinsey Ward A. Tinsey, 98, of Caro and formerly of Bad Axe, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro, following an extended illness. He was born Oct. 25, 1901, in Port Hope. He was the son of the late Phillip and Ida (Zabelle) Tinsey. He attended the eighth grade at the Redman Rural School. Mr. Ward Tinsey and Miss Beatrice Bishop were married on Oct. 17, 1922, in Kinde. They were married some 76 years before she died on June 12, 1999. Ward worked for 30 years for Brown's Creamery as a milkman, then became an independent, owning his own route called Twin Pines. He loved baseball and especially was a Red Wings hockey fan. Surviving are his son, Philip Tinsey and his wife, June, of Caseville; his daughter, Marilyn Heck and her husband, Lester, of Warren; six grandchildren, Phillip Brent Tinsey and his wife, Joanie, Richard Ward Tinsey and his wife, Dawn, Janice Mary Bemben and her husband, Dennis, William Lester Heck and his wife, Ellen, Gail Kathleen Michling and her husband, Alan, and Andrea Lynn Heck; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Melborn, William, Fred and Henry Tinsey; and two sisters, Irene Storbeck and Ann Reid. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, April 24, 2000, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home, Bad Axe, with the Rev. Michael Quayle officiating. Burial will follow in the Colfax Township Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Michigan Leader Dogs for the Blind or to the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility for the aviary. 1
