Local Obituaries Week of November 5, 2000 Ruelle Dominick Ruelle Dominick, 88, of Lake Township died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at her home. She was born Sept. 9, 1912, at the home of her parents, the late Fred and Reva (Ruthfuff) Fischer. On Aug. 4, 1937, she was united in marriage to Marshall "Mark" J. Dominick at her parents' home in Belleville. Ruelle graduated from Michigan State Normal College, now Eastern Michigan University, in 1933, with a bachelor of science degree in education. She was a lifelong member of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority and a long-time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Caseville. She enjoyed bowling and playing tennis, was a challenging euchre and pinochle player, and loved to dance and listen to music. Her favorite pastime was playing the piano. She had a sense of humor surpassed by none and could always laugh and make others laugh. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Mark; four sons, Toby Dominick and his wife, Roberta, of St. Clair, Kim Dominick of Southfield, Derry Dominick of Plymouth, and Chris Dominick and his wife, Diane, of White Lake; her grandchildren, Jim and his wife, Katie, Steve and his wife, Jennifer, Paul, Jenine, Jeff, Tamara, Mary Louise, Elizabeth and Christa; and her sister, Patsy Dodge of Belleville. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville, with burial in the Caseville Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday and after noon Sunday. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or the Caseville Eagles Charity program. Francis Draschil Francis (Frank) Draschil, 80, of Owendale, died Friday morning, Nov. 10, 2000, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon following a five-year illness. He is survived by his wife, Alice; one son, Thomas Draschil of Owendale; one daughter, Elaine Parker and her husband, Jerry, of Mason; four granddaughters, Amy Powell and her husband, Mike, of Owendale, Marcie Jeffery and her husband, Tom, of Gagetown, Kristin Miller and her husband, Steen, of Mason, Alissa Parks and her husband, Michael, of Gregory; one step- granddaughter, Julie Wilburn and her husband, Jay, of Lansing; one step-grandson, Rob Parker and his wife, Merrilee, of Mason; four great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; four sisters, Eva Long of Sebewaing, Anna Bellan of Brownsville, Pa., Mary Effa of Niles, Ill., Margaret Cavanaugh of Chicago; two brothers, John Draschil and his wife, Martha, of Sebewaing, Andy Draschil of Owendale; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing with the Rev. Charles Kuhl officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Alma Gottschalk Alma Gottschalk, 85, of Filion passed away on Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at the Huron Medical Care Facility following an extended illness. She is survived by a son, Ed Gottschalk and his wife, Barbara, of Ann Arbor; three daughters, Nancy Deacons and her husband, Howard, of Filion, Joanne Adrian and her husband, William, of Okemos and Shirley Haldane and her husband, William, of Filion; two brothers, Arthur DesJardins and his wife, Pat, of Caseville and Ron DesJardins and his wife, Diane, of Bozman, Mont.; two sisters, Mildred Cox of Plains, Mont. and Frances Darron of Nampa, Idaho; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. Officiating will be the Rev. Kenneth Lueke, pastor. Burial will be in Colfax Cemetery. Anthony Spino Anthony Spino, 71, of Port Austin died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital. He was the dearest husband of Geraldine. Also surviving are two sons, Dennis Spino and his wife, Linda, and Richard Spino and his fiance, Susan Scott and her two children, Steve and Laura; three grandchildren, Daniel, Rachel and Jennifer; and two sisters, Mary and Helen. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at Fred Wood Funeral Home in Livonia. Willard Vallance Willard J. Vallance, 72, of Lake Township died Saturday morning, Nov. 11, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital in Bad Axe. Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville. Ronald Cooke Ronald "Roy" Cooke, 84, of Caseville died Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 8, 2000, at his home while under hospice care. He was born Dec. 24, 1915, in Aberhondda, Wales, and moved to Canada as a child with his parents, the late Frederick and Sarah (Elias) Cooke. In 1920, they moved to the Clinton Township area north of Detroit. On June 15, 1940, he was united in marriage to Mary Mortimer in Mount Clemens. She preceded him in death in May 1992. Mr. Cooke served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed at Chrysler Corp. for 34 years, retiring in 1972. He also was employed at St. John's Lutheran Church and school in Fraser for nine years, driving a bus and as custodian. He was a member of Cross Lutheran Church, Pigeon, the Caseville Eagles, and was a former AAL representative and Eagle Scout. Surviving are two children, Barbara Degg and her husband, Larry, and Walter Cooke and his wife, Mary, both of Caseville; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Juanita Trestrail of Dearborn Heights. He was preceded in death by a son, Fred; and two sisters, Joyce Trestrail and Trese Gonzales. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at Cross Lutheran Church. The Rev. Raymond Orth, pastor, will officiate with burial in Cadillac Memorial Garden East. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville, and after 1 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorials may be given to the church building fund. Frank Leppek Mr. Frank Z. Leppek, 86, of Filion died Monday evening, Nov. 6, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital in Bad Axe. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly. Raymond Van Steelant Raymond Van Steelant, 92, of Caseville Township passed away Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Autumnwood of Deckerville. Funeral services will take place at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at the Meyersieck- Bussema Funeral Home, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, in Pigeon, with Sr. Theresa Fox, O.P., parish administrator at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon, officiating. Diane Forsyth Diane Forsyth, 45, of Bad Axe died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital. Surviving are one daughter, Jamie Forsyth of Filion; one son, Robert Forsyth and his wife, Michelle, of Bad Axe; her mother, Ilene Johnson and her husband, Dale, of Bad Axe; a sister, Kay Dubey and her husband, Todd, of Elkton; two brothers, Joseph Edwards and special friend, Lorraine Hall, of North Branch and James Edwards and his wife, Sharon, of Freeland. Funeral services will take place at noon Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at the First United Methodist Church in Bad Axe. The Rev. William Wright will officiate. Mildred Ulrich Mildred Ulrich, 81, of Hemlock passed away suddenly on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center Cooper in Saginaw. Surviving besides her husband, are a son, David Ulrich of Bad Axe; a twin sister, Mabel Stevens of Hemlock; a brother, Martin Wardin of Hemlock; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 2461 N. Raucholz Road, Hemlock. The Rev. Martin Hagenow will officiate with burial at 3 p.m. in the Colfax Township Cemetery, Bad Axe. Ronald Michalski Ronald Grant Michalski, 40, of Bad Axe died at his home on Friday, Nov. 3, 2000. Surviving are his daughter, Lee Ann Michalski of Bad Axe; his father and stepmother, Ronald and Mary Michalski of Pigeon; his mother and stepfather, Mary Lee and Guy Almas of St. Helen; a brother, Scott Michalski and his wife, Deanna, of Cass City; two sisters, Diane Guza and her husband, Jack, of Bad Axe, and Lori Sprague and her husband, Brad, of Kilmanagh; 11 nieces and nephews, Scott, Kayla and Ashley Michalski, Heather, Jason, Nicole and Ashley Guza, and Celeste, Desirae, Joshua and Josh Sprague. Arnold Kundinger Arnold H. Kundinger, 83, of Sebewaing died unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. Surviving besides his wife, Doris, are five daughters, one son and their spouses, Linda Hamilton of Richville, Carolyn Keipinger of Reese, Lois Kroll and her husband, Jeff, Evelyn Stringer and her husband, John, all of Sebewaing, Janice Brown and her husband, Arnold, of Snover, and Duane Kundinger and his wife, Vicki, of Williamsburg; 14 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandsons; three step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leona Fiebig and Mildred Bolzman, both of Sebewaing; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at New Salem Lutheran Church. The Rev. William Mayhew will officiate with burial in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Marian Kuhl Marian J. Kuhl, 82, of Sebewaing died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Tendercare of Cass City following a brief illness. Surviving are two daughters, Carol Beitz and her husband, Gene, of Gagetown and Sandra Hessler and her husband, Merton, of Caro; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Kuhl of Unionville; a brother, Robert Euler and his wife, Shirley, of Sebewaing; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing. The Rev. Ray McGee and the Rev. Darwin Kuhl will officiate with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Thelma Etzler Thelma Etzler, 93, a lifelong resident of Bad Axe, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Surviving is one son, Jack Etzler and his wife, Virginia, of Bad Axe; one granddaughter, Ruth Ann Etzler of Bad Axe; and three nieces, Bettye Link and her husband, John, of Rockford, Donna Duerr of Grand Rapids, and Barbara Koch and her husband, Norm, of Ann Arbor. Funeral services will take place at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. The Rev. William R. Wright of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Colfax Township Cemetery. Esther Burmeister Esther S. Burmeister, 89, of Cheboygan, formerly of Sebewaing, died Saturday morning, Nov. 4, 2000, at the Cheboygan Health Care Center in Cheboygan following a lengthy illness. Surviving are two sons, Norman Burmeister and his wife, Patricia Welgs, of Remus, and Clare L. Burmeister and his wife, Roberta, of Cheboygan; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. Burial will be in Old St. John Lutheran Cemetery. William Flannery William J. Flannery, 78, of Caseville, formerly of Detroit, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, in the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Surviving are his wife, Clara; sons Todd Flannery and his wife, Maria, of Las Vegas, Nev., Gary Roels and his wife, Kaye, of Clinton Township, and Philip Roels and his wife, Suzanne, of Rochester Hills; daughter Irma Domeneck and her husband, Jerry, of Washington Township; sisters Audrey Sloane, Geraldine Rogers and Marjorie Watson; grandchildren Todd, William, Joseph, Michael, Amy, Julie, Timothy, Philip, Rebecca, Jerry, Jodie and James; seven great-grandchildren; sisters Audrey Sloane, Geraldine Rogers and Marjorie Watson. A funeral Mass took place on Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, in St. Isidore Catholic Church in Macomb Township with the Rev. Fr. Mike Hrydziuszko officiating. 1
