Adelbert Delos Shears
Born: Aug 9, 1847; Sheffield, Ashtabula County, O (Ohio)
Died: October 14 (1922)  in this city (Otsego)
Aged: 75 years, one month and five days
Millitary: “ In September, 1864, at the age of 16, he enlisted in the 177th 
Ohio regiment and served throughout the war, receiving his discharge on June 
24, 1865, in Greensboro, N.C. being the fourth brother of the family to 
enlist.”
Residence: “ He came to Michigan in the spring of 1868, settling in this 
township (Otsego),
Married: Louisa Hutchins,  March 29, 1868 there (Otsego)
“To this union five children were born.”
Surviving are 3 Children, the others dying in infancy.”
Occupation: Farmer until 29 years ago
Residence: Moved to the city (Otsego) 29 years ago.
Deceased wife: Mrs. Shears died seven years ago last May.  
“Since that time Mr Shears lived with his daughter Mrs. Stratton.  His illness 
was of two years duration, the last year being confined to his bed.   He was a 
patient sufferer but often expresses a desire to pass on and be at rest.”  
Survivors: “Three children, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and 
four brothers, William, Frank, Sidney and Luther.” 
Funeral: From the late home,  Tuesday (17 Oct 1922)  afternoon at 2 o’clock
Oficiating: Rev. C.E. Pollock pastor of the M.E. church
Interment: Mountain Home cemetery.



Additional Comments:
Twin Brothers: Mindard/Minard D. SHEARS and Minerd/Minard C. SHEARS preceded 
Adelbert in death. His parents were John SHEARS and Malinda SHAW.
