It is south of Toms Creek Cemetery, Which is southeast of Emmittsburg. In reality, Toms Creek Cemetery, itself, consists of two cemeteries. These graves are the earliest in the locality. CHRISTIAN WHITMORE / Died May 26, 1862 / Aged 86 Years, 9 Mo. / & 6 d. Footnote: To get to the Dern farm, go south on the SIXES ROAD, from the Toms Creek Church. Turn to the right and follow a lane to the residence. Not far from the Dern residence is a lane. Follow this, then cross a fence, and the stones will be seen among clumps of trees and brush, surrounded by a woven wire fence. All the stones were carefully examined, and data copied on September 16, 1956. Information by James Whitmer, February 11, 2001. Although the remains of the cemetery are still located on the farm, the gravestones have been moved to the Mountain View Cemetery, Emmitsburg, Maryland. As I understand, the reason for moving the gravestones was that Frederick County had plans to flood the area for a large reservoir but it was never constructed.
