Hyde Cemetery This cemetery is located some 0.3 miles West of US 167 off USFS Rd 587, now known as Packton-Alexandria Rd. Site is some 300 yds South of gravel road and reached by seasonal dirt road. Cemetery is located in Grant Parish next to the USFS marker denoting the intersecting corners of Secs 4/5, T9N, R2W Grant Parish and Secs 32/33, T10N, R2W Winn Parish. Physical location in Grant Parish is some 150' South of the old Harrisonburg- Natchitoches Rd used by early settlers moving westward. Old wagon trail ruts are still visible at a nearby ford. Cemetery is 60' South of Parish Line. Cemetery has been used as burial site for local residents and travelers since the 1860's, when this area was settled. No organized church or established records of those buried here was ever established. Cemetery was not fenced until 1997 by the writer and Mr. Moore. Fenced area is 85' x 85'. Prior to 1963, there were numerous headstones/markers present. At that time, loggers clearcut this USFS area and destroyed/broke many of the old markers. There are 10 gravesites remaining with markers, of which 3 have names/dates. In the 1950's, sons of Wes Hyde put up concrete markers at gravesites of family members. There are at least 5 unmarked graves with locations denoted by large rocks. Broken remains of old marble stones denote at least 3 more locations. Cemetery has been unused since about 1918. Grave markers: West Row: Annie P. -dau of MC & Mollie McGee - 5/25/1903 to 10/23/1905 Mack -- son of MC & Mollie McGee - 3/23 to 5/06/1902 At least 4 sites marked by large stones.
