Mt. Pleasant Cemetery (New Llano) - Vernon Parish, Louisiana Submitted by Jane McManus ********************************************** Copyright. Turn right (west) onto LA Hwy. 1211. At the O'Bannion Cemetery the road makes a 90-degree turn south. Follow the curve and continue for approximately 1.3 miles. Turn right onto Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Road. The cemetery is located about .3 miles down this dirt road to the right. It is fenced and beautifully maintained with gate on the southwestern side. There were numerous unmarked burials recorded in this cemetery in 1976, but these now all have new granite markers with a name, if known, and the word "Unknown" if the person's name is not known. There is a covered shed on the property where family meetings can be held. Tombstone inscriptions were recorded as approached from just inside the main gate by Jane P. McManus on 1 May 1995. The Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church was organized 4 April 1855 and was located 18 miles southwest of Leesville on Sabine River Bluffs, south of Burr Ferry. In 1855 there was seven members of the church with James M. Welborn as the messenger and Elder D. H. Willis as the pastoral supply. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unknown - [white cross & granite marker] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Burbank, Mrs. Luther -[white cross & granite marker] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Council, Marylyn Yvonne - 27 Nov 1953/19 Apr 1975 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Youngblood, William M. - 19 May 1877/21 Nov 1935 Youngblood, Martha E. - 13 Jul 1879/18 Dec 1961 [Double Stone] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Daugherty, Edith Lillian - 28 Feb 1917/18 Jun 1985 [w/o Walter Daugherty] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chappio, Child - [new granite marker, no dates] Chappio, Child - [new granite marker, no dates] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unknown - [new granite marker] Unknown - [new granite marker] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chappio, Mrs. - [new granite marker] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spillers, Harmon A. - 8 Mar 1885/30 May 1910, 25 yr 2 mo 22 das Son of B.S. & S.J.
