According to an 1860s map, Cherry Ridge was located near the northern corners of 
Sections 8 and 9, Township 22 North, Range 1 West, just about six miles due east 
of Spearsville. It was an important little village until after the turn of the century.

William Cleaton Carr served as postmaster for the first ten years. He was a pioneer 
settler of Union Parish, arriving in about 1835 or 1836. He served as the first 
sheriff, was a farmer, physcian, and lumberman. He moved from Cherry Ridge to 
Farmerville in the early 1870s and served as the postmaster there from 1875 
through 1878.
