(1770s - 1846). His wife, Olive Rozar (c1792 - after Dec 1849), was also born in Robeson County, the daughter of John Rozar (1763 - 1825/1829) and his wife Mariann. The Regans lived near the Rozars in North Carolina, but the two families took different paths to Georgia. Daniel Regan moved to Beaufort District South Carolina in the early 1790s and remained until about 1806, whereas John Rozar moved directly to Georgia by about 1794. Rozar lived in Jefferson County Georgia between 1796 and 1806, but when the white settlers began pushing west of the Oconee River in 1805 and 1806 following the first land lottery, both families settled near each other in what would soon become Pulaski County Georgia. Joseph Regan served in the Georgia Militia during the Creek War of 1813 - 1814, a sub-conflict of the War of 1812. Joseph and Olive lived in Pulaski County until the latter 1820s, when they moved to Dale County Alabama. After only a few years there, about 1833 they followed their siblings to Hinds County Mississippi, near Jackson. In 1836, Joseph began purchasing government land in northern Ouachita Parish Louisiana, the portion that would become Union Parish in 1839. Regan's farm lay several miles northwest of Farmerville, near Cherry Ridge. He died only a few months after the creation of the Parish of Union. The Petition of Allen Carr, a resident of your said Parish and State with respect represents unto your Honor that Joseph Regan, late a resident of your Parish and State departed this life at his residence in said parish on or about the 14th day of December AD 1839 intestate leaving a considerable Estate in your said Parish and the following persons his heirs viz. Olive Rosier, his wife in community with him and the following children: John Regan, Sarah Regan, Elizabeth Regan, the wife of John Austin, and Mary M. Regan now the wife of Charles McDaniel and Nancy Regan, now the wife of Richard Lee all majors and residents of your said Parish, Wm. Regan, Milly Regan, Martha Ann Regan and James Regan minors also residents of your said parish. Your Petitioner further represents unto your Honor that said Estate is largely indebted to him and others and is un-represented. Wherefore he prays your Honor to appoint him Administrator of said Estate none of the heirs having applied for the same and that you cause an Inventory and Appraisement of the same to be made and for all such other and further decrees in the premises as the nature of the case may require &c. John Taylor Parish Judge State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this 21st day of December AD 1839 that I john Taylor Parish Judge and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said Parish and State having received official information of the death of Joseph Regan who departed this life intestate at his residence in the Parish of Union on the 14th day of This Instant 1839 leaving his widow and relict Olive rosier and the following named children major and minor issue by his marriage with said Olive to wit: Nancy, now the wife of Richard Lee; Mary, now the wife of Charles McDaniel; Elizabeth, now the wife of John Austin; Sarah and John Regan all major heirs; William, Milly, Martha Ann and James Regan, minor heirs besides leaving a considerable Estate of property real and personal, rights and credits, goods and chattels, lands and tenements and for the purpose of making an Inventory and Appraisement of said decedent’s Estate. I have repaired to the residence of said decedent and for the purpose as aforesaid, I have appointed Willis Wood, Campbell Lassiter, residents and free holders of said Parish appraisers to appraise all the property comprising said decedent’s Estate and when after being well and duly sworn by me the said Judge well and truly to do and perform all and singular the matters and things herein according to law have proceeded as follows together with me the said Judge and undersigned witnesses and parties. Whereupon your Petitioner prays your Honor to advertise the annexed account as required by Law and that the same be homologated and your petitioner’s bond as Administrator be cancelled and annulled and that he be released as Administrator from his liabilities as such and for all such orders and decrees in the premises as the nature of the case may require and as in duty bound &c.
