Hebert has returned from a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit home ported at Camp Lejeune, N.C. The 22nd MEU is part of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group. Hebert along with the rest of the 22nd MEU, participated in Exercise Bright Star '99 with coalition forces from 10 other nations. Exercise Bright Star '99 was the 11th exercise in the series which began in 1980, and is important to the U.S. and Egyptian military relationship, which anchors the Middle East peace process. Heberrt's unit is an expeditionary intervention force with the ability to rapidly organize for combat operations in virtually any environment. MEUs are composed of more than.2,000 personnel and are divided into an infantry battalion, an aircraft squadron, a support group and a command element. With the combination of these teams, Hebert's unit supplies and sustains itself for either quick mission accomplishment or clearing the way for follow-on forces. Hebert, a 1993 graduate of Ellender Memorial High School, joined the Navy in January 1994. He is the son of Sandra A. Hebert of Gray and of Dennis P. Hebert Jr. of Houma. BRODY MATHERNE Marine Corps Pvt. Brody Kai Matherne has completed basic miltary training at Marine Corps Recruiting Depot San Diego. He is currently stationed at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in California. Brody is a 1999 graduate of South Terrebonne High School. He is the son of Ivan J. Matherne of Bourg and Debra Marcel Matherne of Houma. JASON STEVENS Jason P. Stevens of Morgan City has enlisted in the United States Air Force. Upon successfully completing the Air Force's six-week basic training course at Lackland Air Force Base, near San Antonio, Texas, he will receive technical training in his designated career area. Stevens, a graduate of Morgan City High School, will earn credits toward an associate degree in applied sciences through the community college of the Air Force while attending basic and technical training schools. DANIEL PENA Daniel J. Pena of Houma has enlisted in the United States Air Force. JEFFERY BOQUET Marine Corps Pvt Jeffrey A. Boquet has completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Boquet is a 1999 graduate of Houma Christian School. He is the son of Alice E. and Harold P. Boquet of Houma. SAMUEL DARDAR Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Samuel S. Dardar has returned from a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and Arabian Gulf aboard the destroyer USS Kinkaid, home ported in San Diego. During the deployment Dardar's ship participated in Operation Southern Watch in the Arabian Gulf, enforcing U.N. resolutions levied against Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War, patrolling the no-fly zone over Southern Iraq, and prohibiting the flow of illegal contraband to and from Iraq. USS Kinkaid also visited cities in Australia, Bahrain and Korea, where crew members had a chance for relaxation, sightseeing, shopping and enjoying local cuisine. Sailors from Dardar's ship also assisted the e local community by participating in community relations projects. Dardar is a 1989 graduate of South Lafourche High School. He is the son of Sunimersgill J. Dardar of Golden Meadow. DUSTIN PRICE Marine Corps Pvt. Dustin M. Price has completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Price is a 1999 graduate of South Terrebonne High School. His parents are Eunice T. and Ricky M. Price of Chauvin. TODD CURLIN Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Todd M. Curlin has returned from a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific Ocean and Arabian Gulf aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu, home ported in San Diego. During the deployment, Curlin's ship assisted the international force in the East Timor Sea in an effort to re-establish communication and provide heavy-lift and planning support following political unrest. Curlin's ship and its embarked Marines present a formidable U.S. presence which can provide a rapid response in times of crisis. Sailors and Marines aboard the ship can conduct a variety of missions from reconnaissance and amphibious assaults to evacuation of civilians and providing humanitarian aid. Curlin, a 1995 graduate of South Terrebonne High School, joined the Navy in October 1997. He is the son of Richard W. and Lisa M. Curlin of Bourg. PHUONG LE Marine Corps Pvt. Phuong H. Le has completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Le, a 1999 graduate of South Terrebonne High School, is the son of Van T. Le of Houma. KINYA JOHNSON Army Pvt. Kinya W. Johnson has graduated from basic military training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the training, the soldier received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid and Army history and traditions. Johnson is the daughter of Rose M. and Kenneth Johnson Sr. of Houma. The private is a 1995 graduate of Ellender High School. Guidry has graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. The course of instruction included basic military training and advanced individual training. During basic military training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions. During AIT, the soldier completed the military police specialist course and learned to provide combat area support by conducting battlefield circulation control, area security, prisoner of war operations, civilian internee operations, and law and order operations. The trainee also learned to provide peacetime support to the military community through security of resources, crime prevention p rograms, and preservation of law and order. Guidry is the daughter of Daisy M. Guidry of Montegut. The private is a 1999 graduate of South Terrebonne High School. ISAAC SCOTT Air Force Reserve Airman Isaac Scott Jr. has graduated from the automated logistical specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va. The soldier was trained in the skills and knowledge required to receive, store, issue, ship and account for subsistence supplies. The training included ration breakdown and commissary functions such as price changes, inventory, displays and security. Scott is the son of Isaac Scott Sr. of Gray. He is a 1999 graduate of H. L. Bourgeois High School. LAMARK HENRY Air National Guard Airman Lamark A. He is an avionics guidance and control technician assigned to the 908th Airlift Wing. Dufrene is the son of Larry U. and Joyce A. Dufrene of Cut Off. The senior airrnan is a 1987 graduate of South Lafourche High School. DANIELLE MIRABAL Army Pvt. Danielle M. Mirabal has entered basic military training at Fort Jackson, Columbia; S.C. During the eight weeks of training, the soldier will study the Army mission and will receive instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history and traditions, and special training in human relations. She is the daughter of Charles Spring of Houma. SHAWN TEMPLET Army Pvt. Shawn C. Templet has arrived for duty at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. Templet is a non-communications interceptor analyst assigned to the 48th Infantry. He is the son of Margaret B. and Carl A. Templet of Gray.
