He was 71, born Wednesday, Sept. 26, 1934, in New Orleans. He was the son of the late Martin Joseph Steib and the late Doretta Philomena Wiedemann Steib. He was a past member of the Strawberry Capitol Coin Club, where he presided as treasurer, and he held the position of vice president of Kappa Delta Tau. He taught mathematics at Southeastern Louisiana University from 1959 to 1960, then at LSU-New Orleans from 1961 to 1965, and returned in 1965 to SLU, where he continued teaching mathematics until he retired in 1993. Surviving are his wife, Frances Madelyn Musante Steib; sons and daughters-in-law, Craig Martin and Tammie N. Steib of Mandeville, and Derryl Paul and Kathleen Steib of Madison, Miss.; daughter and son-in-law, Dori Steib and Douglas St. Cyr of Hammond; and three brothers, Wilfred, George and Henry Steib, all from the New Orleans area. He also is survived by four grandchildren, four stepgrand- children and three stepgreat-grandchildren He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Steib; and two brothers, Joey and Jules Steib. Friends will be received on Tuesday evening, Nov. 22, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with vigil prayers at 7 p.m., and again on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Service will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Robert U. Perry, O.P., celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in Rose Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum in Hammond.
