Shoemaker.] *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star on: 11/17/2006 SHOEMAKER, MELISSA QUAVE Melissa "Dee" Quave Shoemaker, 89-year-old, died peacefully at Oakwood Hospital, Dearborn, Michigan, October 29, 2006. She was born near Covington, La., May 3, 1916, and spent most of her life in Hammond, La. She was secretary and bookkeeper for a certified public accountant firm through much of her life. Upon retirement she served as secretary in the Southern Methodist Church in Hammond. In addition to loyal church membership and attendance, Melissa was highly active in Eastern Star and Rainbows. After the death of her husband, she moved to Woodhaven, Michigan, in 1996 and became a active member of First Methodist United Church in Tenton and contributed greatly to the church's United Methodist Women. She is survived by her children Paulette Wilson of Woodhaven, Michigan, and Paul Shoemaker of Maurepas, La., their spouses, Dr. Joe Wilson and Peg Shoemaker, two grandchildren, five nephews and one sister, Edna Quave Jones of Hammond. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Shoemaker and parents Chris and Lucy Quave. Her body was donated to science. A memorial was held November 4, 2006, at First Methodist Church, Trenton, Michigan. Those wishing to donate memorial gifts are ask to consider The First United Methodist Church, 2610 W. Shoemaker, 57, died April 8; funeral services were April 9, from Loranger Church of God; interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. He is survived by his widow, the former Lily McNeal; four daughters, Mrs. Catherine S.
