He was 87, a resident and native of Independence. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visiting at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and after 8 a.m. Thursday. Religious services at the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. Thursday. Interment in Bankston Cemetery, 4th Ward. Survived by two sons, Derek J. Overland Sr. and Christopher P. Overland, both of Albany; a daughter, Iris Andrea Overland, Hammond; three grandchildren, Derek J. Overland Jr., Brad Lee Miles and Tammy Lynn Miller; and two great-grandchildren, Brent Hano and Kelsey Lauren Overland. Preceded in death by wife, Iris Minney Overland; a grandson, Pryce Shane Overland; two brothers, Billy and Carl Overland; and two sisters. He was a member of Amite Masonic Lodge No. 175, F&AM. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star on: 3/7/2008 OVERLAND, PATSY MORGAN Patsy Morgan Overland, age 60 and a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and sister, Patsy passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center. She was a resident of Natalbany-Tickfaw area and a member of Natalbany Baptist Church. Patsy was employed for several years with Hammond Walmart. She is survived by her loving husband, Billy David Overland; two cherished daughters, Victoria ³Vickie² Morgan Richards and her husband, Michael; Tracey Morgan Sadaway and her husband, Phillip, Jr. and one adoring son, Jason Todd Morgan. She is also survived by her precious mother, Ruth Addison; one brother, Tommy Patterson and his wife, Hortence ³Hank²; two half-brothers, David and Dana Patterson. Patsy leaves behind five affectionate grandchildren, Brooke, Shelby, Beau, Morgan and Sylvia. Patsy's grandson, Trent Sadaway, her father, Pat Patterson, her step-father, Marvin Addison and half brother, Jim Patterson preceded her in death. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond on Saturday, March 8th at 10:30 a.m. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home chapel Friday, March 7th from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service time. Services will be conducted by Rev. Rodney Taylor assisted by Rev. Leo Miller. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery in McComb, Mississippi.
