She was born on Nov. 3, 1919, in Greenfield, Tenn., and was a resident of Hammond for most of her adult life. She adored her four daughters, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was a creative and talented homemaker who loved to paint, needlepoint, garden and play bridge. In her later years, she was an active volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Hospice and Holy Ghost Church Bereavement Committee. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul Gerard Maurin; sister, Annie Brock; and brother, Robert Jeter. She is survived by four daughters, Nancy Bean, Baton Rouge, and Margaret Amar and her husband, Darrell Amar, Paulette Felder and Mary Ellen Scherer, all of Hammond; and 11 grand- children, Shondra Whittington Broussard, Shelly Whittington Jenks, Michael Whittington, Darrell Amar, Robyn Amar Davis, Brandon Amar, Margaret Felder Mollega, Rob Felder, Andrew Felder, Jamie Scherer and Lindsey Scherer. She was also blessed to have 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Hammond, on Friday, July 20, from 9 a.m. until funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Hammond. He was 83. Visiting at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Hammond, from 10 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, conducted by a Dominican priest. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery. Survived by his wife, Gurley McGehee Maurin, Hammond; children, Aurora Maurin Trufant and Buckley William McGehee Maurin; two grandchildren, Michael Cade Trufant Jr. and Christopher William Trufant; and a sister, Marie Maurin Carlisle, Alabama. Preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Caroline Tofano Maurin; and two brothers, Robert and Paul Maurin. He was a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He was owner of Maurin Wood Preserving Co., former owner of the Travel Shoppe, former owner of the Massey Ferguson dealership in Hammond, and co-owner of Maurin Motor Co. in Hammond. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Hammond, Holy Ghost Catholic Church and the Tangipahoa Chapter of Southeastern Louisiana University Alumni.
