Gerald M. Jenkins, the youngest of four children, was born Aug. 6, 1948, and passed away at 10:35 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at Tulane Medical Center, New Orleans, surrounded by his family. He was 61, a native of Amite and resident of Roseland. Gerald served our country in the U.S. Army in the 1970s and 1980s. He was employed with International Paper Co. for more than 20 years. He continued logging by starting his own company, XIP, with a business partner. Gerald is survived by his wife, Carol McElveen Jenkins, Roseland, whom he married on June 30, 1973; two daughters, Lori Jenkins Trahan and husband Cory, Amite, and Kelli Jenkins Schwebel and husband Jacob, Roseland; a son, Ryan Blake Jenkins, Roseland; two sisters, Shirley Jenkins Primes and Francine Jenkins, both of Amite; brother, Perry Jenkins and wife Carolyn, Amite; and grandchildren, Caden Andrew Trahan, Ian Alexander Trahan, Caroline Marie Trahan and Abby Schwebel.
