She was 87, born Nov. 26, 1922, in Liverpool, to the late Wash and Harriet Holloway. She was the wife of Henry J. Hookfin for 68 years and the mother of 14 children, 10 of whom are living. She was a faithful member of Orange Grove Church of God in Christ, where she served five decades under three pastors. She served as the assistant church mother and treasurer until her health failed. She will be remembered as a true caregiver of family and friends. She took in and cared for a nephew, her blind mother, an invalid elderly cousin, her oldest sister and grandchildren. She also worked outside the home in someone else's home and for 21 of those years she had an invalid daughter at home. This superwoman is also praised by several families for the care she gave to their family member. She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband, Henry J. Hookfin; 10 children, Lillie Mae Brumfield, Henry Earl Hookfin Sr. and his wife, Tamalia, Paul Ellis Hookfin, and Ivy Lee Hookfin and his wife, Shelia, all of Kentwood, Juanita Johnson, Henrietta L. Jackson, Lessie M. Hookfin and Antoinette Brown and her husband Bobby, all of Baton Rouge, Ruby Lee Hookfin, of Washington, D.C., and Mary Lee Soniat, of Kenner; a special son from another mother, Chuck Tillis; a brother, Jessie Holloway and his wife, Julie Mae, of Amite; 19 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was 86, born Feb. 17, 1920, in Liverpool, a son of Albert and Lela Taylor Hookfin. Elder Hookfin retired from the Woolworth Co. after many years of service. He was the pastor of the Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army. Elder Hookfin is survived by his loving wife, Corene; three daughters, Tenoah and Michelle Hookfin and Benita and husband George Carter; two sons, Cornelious and wife Anita and Luther and wife Connie; two adopted sons, Willie James and wife Denise and Vernon; three brothers, Henry and wife Mary, Charlie, and Lamar and wife Janet; a sister, Katie Griffin; 17 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, five brothers and three sisters.
