"POPS" A resident of Kentwood, he died at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb, Miss. He was 84, born Nov. 11, 1926, in McComb. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a Masonic lodge, Fraternal Order of Police, the American Legion and Civil Air Patrol. He served in the armed services in the Army Air Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard during World War II and the Korean War. He was a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University with a degree in accounting, and worked 12 years for Baton Rouge city police. Visitation at Line Creek Baptist Church, Kentwood, Thursday, Oct. 27, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting resumes at the church Friday, Oct. 28, from 8 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Ken Irvin. Interment in Woodland Cemetery, Kentwood. He is survived by his wife, Abbie Muse Hilburn, Kentwood; her son, Bill Whitney, Jacksonville, Fla.; brother, Robert E. Hilburn and his wife, Gerry, Baton Rouge; nephews, Bobby and Greg Hilburn; and great-nieces, Savannah and Chelsey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther A. Hilburn and Lula Knight Hilburn.
