KEVIN M. Kevin Carter was a beloved husband, father, brother, son, friend and mentor. He was a pillar of the Christian community and one of the founding fathers of Cornerstone Church. He lived his life for the service of his Lord Jesus Christ. He went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Hood Memorial Hospital in Amite. He was a native of Greensburg and a resident of Amite. Age 55 years. She was born on Sept. 4, 1929, to Richard and Della Cain Deemer in Riley. She was the 11th of 12 children reared in Hammond. She graduated from Hammond Colored High School and earned her bachelor's degree in vocational home economics from Southern University. Her teaching career included positions at Hammond Colored High School and in Ponchatoula at Perrin Junior High School and Ponchatoula High School until she retired in 1977. She is survived by four children, attorney Gideon Tillman Carter III and his wife, Gwenevere Lea Carter, of Baton Rouge, Genor Evan Carter and his wife, attorney Leta Holden Carter, of Aurora, Colo., and Gwendolyn Reneé Carter and Dr. Gemetri Evette Carter, Ph.D., both of Ponchatoula; five grandchildren, Jessica, Vincent, Spencer, Terrence, and Quincy; three nieces, five nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
