BERTEAU, GERALD JAMES  

PONCHATOULA - Gerald James "Pico" Berteau, 81, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 
2002, at his home. He was a native of Dutchtown and a retired operator 
with the Pontchartrain Levee Board. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Dell 
Pittman Berteau of Ponchatoula; a daughter, Christine Beauchamp of 
Ponchatoula; a step-daughter, Janice Bergeron of Prairieville; two step-
sons, Stanley and Billy Berteau, both of Gonzales; three sisters, Mildred 
B. Delhommer, Lucille B. Evans and Lily Mae Brown, all of Dutchtown; 
three brothers, Soley, Freddie and Milton Berteau, all of Dutchtown; and 
two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and 
Eleanor "Lina" Melancon Berteau; two brothers, Lawless "Doodle" Berteau 
and Yean "Cannonball" Berteau. Visitation will be today at Ourso Funeral 
Home, Gonzales, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until the funeral 
at 11:30. Burial will be in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales.

BERTEAU, LUCY DELL PITTMAN 
A resident of Hammond and native of Gonzales, she died Saturday morning,
Feb. 4, 2006, at Heritage Health Care in Hammond. She was 79 and a
homemaker. Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home chapel, Gonzales, on Monday, Feb.
6, from 8:30 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Interment in Hope
Haven Cemetery, Gonzales. Survived by two daughters and sons-in-law,
Christine and Matthew Beauchamp of Ponchatoula and Janice and James
Bergeron of Gonzales; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Billy Joe and Carol
Berteau of Gonzales and Stanley Paul Berteau of Gonzales; brother and
sister-in-law, Paul and Shirley Shaifer of Freemont, Calif.; nine grand-
children and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents,
Andrew Jackson Pittman and Mary Ann Lane Stafford; husband, Gerald Berteau;
sister, Frances Haygood; and brother, Cecil Pittman.

BERTEAU, MELISSA HOLLIE    

A native and resident of Ponchatoula, she died Friday, May 23, 2003, at 
St. Tammany Parish Hospital. She was 36. Visiting at Harry McKneely & 
Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, from 10 a.m. until religious service at 2 
p.m. Sunday. Interment in Ponchatoula Cemetery. Survived by her husband, 
James Berteau Jr.; two daughters, Rebecca Ford and Ashley Ford; parents, 
Wayne and Diane Williams Hollie; a sister, Marie Prevost; two brothers, 
James Hollie and Ray Hollie; maternal grandmother and Viola Willie 
Williams, all of Ponchatoula; and paternal grandmother, Dorothy Bryant, 
Independence. Preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Austin 
Williams; and paternal grandfather, Jimmy Hollie.

BERTEAU, VELMA GUITREAU

A resident of Ponchatoula, she died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at Belle 
Maison Nursing Home. She was 84 and a native of French Settlement. 
Visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, from 6 p.m. 
to 10 p.m. Sunday, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation at the 
funeral home from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Monday. Religious services at St. 
Joseph Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Justin 
Kauchak, O.P. Interment in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Survived by three 
daughters, Rita Drude, Nita Schilling and Sylvia Crawford, all of 
Ponchatoula; three sons, Sherwood Berteau, Donald "Goose" Berteau and 
Kenneth Berteau, all of Ponchatoula; three sisters, Ruth Genre, Walker, 
Leola Roussel, Paulina, and Albertine Marse, Natchez, Miss.; 20 grand-
children, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. 
Preceded in death by her husband, Leonce Berteau Sr.; a son, Leonce 
Berteau Jr.; and a sister, Rita Guitreau. In lieu of flowers, the family 
requests memorials be made to Odyssey Hospice, 3900 N. Causeway Blvd., 
Suite 1400, Metairie, LA 70002.
