He was a native of Dutchtown and a retired operator with the Pontchartrain Levee Board. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Dell Pittman Berteau of Ponchatoula; a daughter, Christine Beauchamp of Ponchatoula; a step-daughter, Janice Bergeron of Prairieville; two step- sons, Stanley and Billy Berteau, both of Gonzales; three sisters, Mildred B. Delhommer, Lucille B. Evans and Lily Mae Brown, all of Dutchtown; three brothers, Soley, Freddie and Milton Berteau, all of Dutchtown; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Eleanor "Lina" Melancon Berteau; two brothers, Lawless "Doodle" Berteau and Yean "Cannonball" Berteau. Visitation will be today at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until the funeral at 11:30.
