She was a member at Wilmer Baptist Church and worked for Bellsouth for more than thirty years. Survived by husband, Frank "Skip" Bateman of Wilmer; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Kerry Womack of Wilmer; son-and-daughter-in-law, Jeff and Lori Winborn of Abita Springs; mother, Ruth Spears of Wiler; two sisters, Nelleen Seal and Janie Sue Pierce, both of Wilmer; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Clifton Spears. Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home today from 5 to 9 p.m., and will continue Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Wilmer Baptist Church with a funeral service to be held at 11 a.m. Elder Jason Skipper and Elder Joe Lott will officiate. Burial will follow in the Wilmer Baptist Church Cemetery. Proverbs 31:31. Nell Bateman passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at her home in Hammond. She was 85 and had fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. She was born Nov. 23, 1925, in Thomasville, Ala. She was preceded in death by her son, John David Bateman. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Edward Carroll "Buck" Bateman; son and daughter-in-law, Charles E. "Chuck" and Sandy Bateman; daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Bill Smith, and Frances and Charles Piazza; grandchildren, Amy Ezell and husband Ty, Jessica Smith and husband Bobby, Michael Piazza and wife Liana, Ashlie Rochon and husband Brad, and Brandi Ford and husband Scott Casmou; great- grandchildren, Madison and Mackenzie Smith, Mathew Bateman, Evan and Valerie Rochon, Amanda Lawrence and husband Brandon, and Katelyn Perrier; and a great-great-grandchild, Levi Alexander Lawrence. Visitation at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1503 Pecan St., Hammond, on Friday, April 1, from 9 a.m. until funeral services begin at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Lonnie Wascom and Pastor John Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Hammond. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to North Oaks Hospice, P.O. Box 2668, Hammond, LA 70404.
