He was a native of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, the owner of Alvarez Nursery in Manalapan and Millstone Township, a member of the Nuserymen's Association and the Monmouth County Shade Tree Commission, a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Delia; a son, Victor of Natalbany; a daughter, Milagros "Molly" Bendick of Millstone; two stepdaughters, Delia and Claudia Herrara; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Milagros. The funeral will be Wednesday at Freeman Manalapan- Marlboro Funeral home, Manalapan, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Perrineville. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge) on: 9/18/2000 ALVAREZ, LUIS A resident of Hammond, he died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000. He was 78 and a native of Cuba. Visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday and after 8 a.m. Wednesday. Religious services in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. Emmit Perriloux. Entombment in Rose Memorial Mausoleum. Survived by his wife, Eloina Capote Alvarez, Hammond; a son, Luis Fermin Alvarez, Natalbany; a sister, Dora Gonzales, Miami; and three grandchildren, Justin Luis Alvarez, Karlie Danielle Alvarez and Christopher Tyler Alvarez. Preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Ceferina Cabrera Alvarez. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3101 W.
