He was an instructor with the C.T.A. Program through the Department of Education in Tangipahoa Parish. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Lirette Abernathy; children, Carolyn Carter, Evangeline Lambert and Samuel Abernathy; sister, Myrtle Purvis; and brother, "Bro" Abernathy. Six brothers and six sisters preceded him in death. The funeral was held this morning at E.J. He was 79 and a native of Kingsland , AR. He retired after 30 years as a Coach Operator with Greyhound Bus Lines and was a graduate of Amite High School. Visitation will be Monday, July 7, 2008 at First Baptist Church Pearl River from 9 A.M. until service time at 12 noon. conducted by Rev. Alvin Waller. Graveside services will be Monday, July 7, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Roseland- Arcola Cemetery in Arcola, LA conducted by his nephew, Rev. Deloy Chapman. She was 93, a native of Bearden, Ark., and a former resident of Kingsland, Risen, Hamburg and other places in Arkansas. She moved to Louisiana in 1946. Visitation was at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. Visitation at the funeral home from noon until religious services at 2 p.m. Sunday, conducted by the Rev. David Fortenberry. Interment in Arcola-Roseland Cemetery, Arcola. Survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Jean Morris, Murfreesboro, Ark., and Ann A. and Quincy Chapman, Chesbrough; three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Betty Ruth Abernathy, Pearl River, John and Lida Abernathy, Springfield, and James "Jimmy" and Patsy Abernathy, Metairie; two sons-in-law, R.E.
