All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.org/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.org/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ State of Louisiana Parish of St. Helena Be it remembered that on this twenty third day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred twenty eight before me, Burlin Childress, Parish Judge and ex officio notary public in and for the parish of St. Helena, State of Louisiana, personally appeared William Durbin of said parish who produced an instrument of writing and requested the same to be admitted of record and which is in the words and figures following To wit: Know all men by these presents that I, David Gaines of the parish of St. Helena and State of Louisiana, for and in consideration of the sum? of five hundred dollars to be paid in the following manner by the aforesaid William Durbin of the aforesaid parish and State, To wit: Three hundred dollars in cattle, one note of hand? to Archibald Haraldsen for one hundred and fifty dollars, and his own promissory note for fifty dollars payable in the month of January, Eighteen hundred and twenty nine, the said David Gaines does for the aforesaid consideration grant, bargain, sell, assign, transfer and set over unto the said William Durbin, his heirs, and assigns, a certain tract or parcel of land situate on the east side of the river Natalbany, bounded on the north southeast and west by Congress? land, and surveyed by Stephen Roberts as applans? by his platt and Certificate dated November 16th 1824, which is herewith transferred unto the said William Durbin. To have and to hold, the aforesaid described Tract or parcel of Land unto the said William Durbin, his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns, and the said David Gaines for himself, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, unto the said William Durbin, his heirs, &c. shall and well warrant and forever defend against the claim of all persons whomsoever. Done and passed in the Parish of St. Helena, aforesaid this twenty third day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight in presence of Edward Gorman and William Thompson, subscribing witnesses.
