John was a graduate of De La Salle High School 1963, and Loyola University 1967. He served in the United States Army from 1967-1969 as 1st Lieutenant. Upon his return from military service, he worked at Whitney National Bank. In 1985, he began his employment with Chef Paul Prudhomme at Magic Seasoning Blends. There, he established himself as a key employee and astute businessman. Through his business contacts, he became a loyal friend and confidant to many. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Hank was responsible for some of the first huge contracts with wireless carriers and his 10 plus years with Tandy were characterized by his willingness to try innovative ideas and his ability to implement them. Allen of Maryville; her brothers, David Jamieson of Whitefish, Montana, Robert Jamieson of Shoreham, New York; and her five children along with their spouses, Joel and Lidia Allen of Tucson, Arizona, Heather and Scott Erwin of Bluffton, South Carolina, Cynthia and Dr. Philip Hoffman of Maryville, Tennessee, Susan and Michael Duggins of Orlando, Florida, Robert Jr. and Therese Allen of Black Mountain, North Carolina, and seven grandchildren. She was born on April 6, 1924, in Athens, New York as one of five children of William and Marie Jamieson. She was a direct descendant of Robert and Mary Hawkins, who came over from England aboard the ship, Elizabeth and Anne in 1620, arriving seventeen days after the Mayflower. She grew up in Patchogue, Long Island, where she would eventually meet and marry Robert Allen in June 1946. In 1959, the Allen family moved to New Orleans and it was there that they raised their five children. Louise Allen was a lifelong homemaker, seamstress, gardener, amateur artist, book lover and avid tennis player. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, her local garden club, several tennis clubs and other community organizations. She was the glue that held our family together and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her and loved her. Allen entered peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with his family at his side, Sunday, March 11, 2007 at 10:05 am. He was 74 years old and a resident of Ponchatoula, LA, since 1968. Born November 4, 1932 in Hammond, LA, he grew up in Manchac. Dr. Allen lived a life devoted to God, his family and to the health of his community. Graduating from Ponchatoula High School in 1951, he then enrolled in Loyola School of Pharmacy in New Orleans and graduated in 1956. His passion for helping others fueled his desire to enter LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans completing his Medical Doctorate in 1964. Upon completing Med School, he entered the US Army as Captain and served in the 4th army in 1965 and recipient of numerous commendations. In 1968 Dr. Allen moved to Ponchatoula to begin his lifelong career providing health care to the community. During his 43 years of medical practice, he fought for patient rights. He assisted on the Louisiana State Formulary Committee to ensure that those who could not afford prescription medication could receive them at little or no cost. Dr. Allen spoke on numerous occasions in Washington, D.C. for patient and physician advocacy. He was instrumental in the creation of a bill mandating that CPR be taught in every high school in the State of Louisiana. He enriched the lives of his children, Glenn, Greg, Steven, Lisa, Merlinda and Merlin, Jr. through his devotion to God along with his loving wife Lee Allen. Dr. Allen was a member of First Baptist Church in Ponchatoula and the American Legion Post 47. He also served as Chief of Staff at North Oaks Medical Center and recently retired after 38 years of dedicated service to the hospital. He was head of Family Practice Department at North Oaks, head of Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians, served as a delegate to AMA, was president of the Tangipahoa Parish Medical Society and was a recipient of the Louisiana Family Physician of the Year award in 1987 and the Congressional Medal of Distinction. Dr. Allen established and implemented the Advanced Cardiac Life Support Program (ACLS) as it is practiced today. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Frank and Mary Rose Allen, and brothers Robert and Raymond Allen. He served in the Korean War. On March 20th 1959, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Faye Atchison in Birmingham, AL. The family moved from Metairie to Covington in 1973 when he began his own firm, Suburban Realty. Ray was a member of First Baptist Church of Mandeville. He was a member of the Mandeville Rotary Club, appointed as club president in 1990-91 and was honored as Rotarian of the Year in 1991-92. He was President of the Chamber of Commerce, 1976-77, and most noted for bringing Junior Achievement to the Northshore. Ray was also President of Toastmasters in 1973. He was a member of numerous other social and business organizations and volunteered at The Good Samaritan, and Each One Save One. Best passed away quietly on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at the age of eighty-eight, ending her tow year struggle with bone marrow cancer. Born December 26, 1918 in Winona, Mississippi to Eugene Hicks and Verda Miller, she grew up in Millington, Tennessee. After graduating from high school, Frances met and married Kermit R. Best in August fo 1938. They almost immediately moved to New Orleans, LA and had four sons together. One of those sons, James E. Best, died at the age of five in 1948. A housewife until her divorce in 1956, Frances then took at job as a secretary with the Freidler-Lyons Agency of the Home Life Insurance Compnay. It was not long before she was promoted to Office Manager, a position she held until her retirment. She remained with the Freidler-Lyons Agency and it successor agencies for 50 years. Frances raised her remaining three sons in New Orleans as a single mother and while working a full time job. Although this was sometimes difficult, she had always managed to take great pleasure in life. She loved the theater and had traveled often to Broadway with her close friends. She also performed in small productions at the Gallery Circle Theater and the Little Theater in New Orleans, and the Little Theater in McComb, Mississipppi. Frances had also enjoyed horse racing, bridge and travel. She was fortunate enough to have traveled abroad extensively. In her later years, Frances' interests became much simpler. She took particular pleasure in her sons, her home and her roses. Throughout it all, Frances had loved fiercely and her loss will be deeply felt by all of those who knew her. In recognition of his faithful and patriotic service to his country, Mr. Blady received eight medals: the World War II; the American Defense; the Liberty; the Asiatic Pacific Campaign; the Korean Service; the American Campaign; the China Service; and Occupation Service. Throughout his life Mr. Blady was employed at Falstaff Brewery, McLean Trucking Company, and finally NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility until his retirement. His hobbies included artistic painting, woodworking and recreational carpentry. A lover of nature and the outdoors, Mr. Blady enjoyed camping, traveling and swimming, both for pleasure and competition. In the 1988 and 1989 Louisiana Senior Olympic Games he won two ribbons and six medals. He proudly claimed to have achieved the status of PFC 'twice' since at the time of his discharge he surrendered his Officers Candidate School status to attend Yale University, where he graduated with a degree in geology in 1949. He studied at the University of Kansas in 1950 and then began an illustrious 36 year career with Chevron USA. He was recognized in the Wall St. Journal for oil and gas discoveries in Louisiana's Tuscaloosa Trend, was instrumental in establishing oil and gas investment partnerships with Merrill Lynch, managed Chevron's Eastern, Central and Gulf of Mexico Divisions for exploration and production activities, and helped implement the merger of Chevron with Gulf Oil Co. nationwide. He regularly attended the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) annual meetings and was a member of various Petroleum Clubs. 'Frank,' his wife Marg, and their constantly growing family lived in Metairie, Houma, and Lafayette, LA, and Natchez, Vicksburg, and Jackson, MS, returning to Metairie in 1961 and remaining through his retirement in 1986. An avid traveler of the USA, he retired to Durango, CO, until relocating to Memphis, TN, in 2002. He traveled to Guam and Saipan for the 50th anniversary of WWII; toured Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii; and regularly visited family nation-wide, attending reunions in Metairie, North Carolina, Durango, and New York. In Metairie, he was an avid participant in St. Mary Magdalen Parish, where he served multiple terms as President of the Society of the Holy Name of Jesus and participated in other charitable endeavors of the Catholic Church. He was awarded the 'Order of St. Louis' by Archbishop Phillip Hannan of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. He volunteered for Pope John Paul, II's visit to New Orleans and attended silent retreats at Manresa for over 30 years. He sent each child to 12 years of Catholic education and packed them off to college with suitcase in hand. He was a long-time financial supporter of LSU, Yale, and Boys Town, USA and a long-time fan of the Saints and Notre Dame. While 'retired' at 'Rancho Blando' in Durango, he volunteered for the Colorado Division of Wildlife, participating in the annual banding of geese and salmon spawns, assisting at the trout fish hatchery, and providing tours at the attached museum. He toured family and friends around various National Parks, was a benefactor to area schools including the geology department of the Navajo College in Ship Rock, NM, and Fort Lewis College in Durango. He studied Native American traditions and lore, was an avid reader and investor, golfed, and was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church. Times Picayune on 03-10- 2007 **************************************** 000099 Borne - Sister Brigid Borne, the oldest Sister of Mount Carmel, died on March 25, 2007 at Ochsner/ Meadowcrest Hospital. She was 97 years old and in the 78th year of her religious profession. Sister Brigid was born Brigitte Marie Borne on September 22, 1909 in Paincourtville to Albert Borne from Labadie, LA and Georgiana Simoneaux Borne from Paincourtville, LA. She entered the Congregation of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on August 15, 1926, and received the habit of the Sisters of Mount Carmel August 6, 1927. On August 8, 1929, she made her first profession, and pronounced perpetual vows August 4, 1932. She celebrated her 75th Jubilee in 2004. Sister Brigid graduated from Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans, LA in 1928. She received her undergraduate degree in 1931 from Mount Carmel Normal in New Orleans and her teacher's certificate in 1931 from the Louisiana State Department of Education. Sister Brigid taught from 1929 to 1982 at parochial and Mount Carmel Schools in Rayne, Westwego, Abbeville, Thibodaux, and Carencro, LA. In New Orleans she taught at St. James Major and St. Dominic and in Metairie at St. Louis King of France. In 1981, she received an award for 42 years of service to the Archdiocese of New Orleans. From 1991, she was retired at the Motherhouse in New Orleans, LA. In 2004, she moved to Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center until Hurricane Katrina, when she evacuated to The Golden Age of Welsh Nursing Home. She returned to Our Lady of Wisdom October 31, 2006 and remained there until her death. Sister Brigid, the eighth of ten children was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers: Felix, Achille, Hubert, Charles and Russell Borne and four sisters: May Daigle, Linda Bertaut, Elma Young, and Sophie Witty. She is survived by her sister-in- law, Ruth (Mrs. Russell) Borne, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She taught in both public and parochial schools in Jefferson Parish for 35 years. She was a member of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, a parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church and was a volunteer for Doctor's Hospital and East Jefferson General Hospital.
