BRODHEAD NEWS Miss Dora Dickerson is on the sick list. - Mrs. Amiel Keizel, of Crab Orchard, visited her parents here last Saturday and Sunday. -A skating club has been organized here composed of the following members: R. E., J. J. and M. C. Albright, H. B. and A. C. McClary, Mat Boling, Chas. Hurt, F. L. Durham, U. B. Cass, and E. R. Gentry. They are skating from 4 p.m. until midnight. Everyone invited. Admission is free. Miss Ethel Parker is visiting Miss Ella Dunn at Danville, Ky. - Miss Carrie Frith, one of our teachers, spent last Saturday and Sunday with her mother. - W. T. Brooks has moved to his property on West Main Street that was recently purchased from Mrs. Alice Tate. - Misses Graham, Ballard, Tate and Mesdames Krueger and Sutton were down from Mt Vernon last Sunday. - A. C. McClary is acting Cashier of Farmers Bank of Summersville during the Cashiers absence. - Thos. W. Evans and Jno. Newland of Lebanon Junction were at home between trains last Saturday. - James Edward Hutcheson is on the sick list. - R. G. Wilmott has returned to Pine Knot after spending two weeks with his mother. - W. G. Smith of Summersville was here Tuesday to see Cashier J. W. Hutcheson on business. - Rev. Baker, a blind minister, preached a very interesting sermon at the Baptist church last Tuesday night. - Aunt Judith Chestnut has returned from a three weeks visit to Mt Vernon and Hazel Patch. - W. A. Tyree has gone to Dumron where he has a contract to erect a two story brick building. LIVINGSTON NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Griffin spent Saturday and Sunday with Mr. Griffin's father, Mr. Daniel Griffin, near Pine Hill. - Mrs. Beckie Lucas and children and Mrs. Hiatt, of Alliston, Ill. Are here attending the bedside of Mrs. Susie Hicks. - Mrs. Sam Ward returned Tuesday from a pleasant two weeks visit to her son, W. R. Ward, and family, of Lancaster. - Casper Adams is in Mt Vernon visiting his uncle, R. B. Mullins. - Old Aunt Cynthia Brummitt is very low and not expected to live but a few hours. - James Hall is painting and papering his residence on Main Street. - Mrs. Kate Magee, of Crab Orchard, is here attending the bedside of her son-in-law, Henderson Browning. - Miss Sallie Cook is the charming guest of her cousin, Miss Lida Cook of this place. - Mrs. J. B. Hayes returned home Monday from Corbin, reporting her little grandson, George Jenkins, as improving. She was accompanied home by Mrs. Ed Quinn and children of Paris. - Mrs. Mahala Caason is quite sick again at this time. - Mrs. Henery Burton, who is keeping the famous : "Mullins Hotel" has a house full of boarders, and more coming every day begging for rooms and lodging. - Mrs. Susie Hicks is very low at this writing. - Miss Anna Griffin, the charming Miss, from Jellico, returned to her home Tuesday leaving some of our young men broken hearted. - Henderson Browning is very low with pneumonia. His recovery is very doubtful. - Mrs. Clara Hayes will lead the prayer meeting at the Christian church. Everyone invited to attend. The subject will be "The New Apostle." Acts 9th Chapter, 19th through 30th verses. - Lena, the little child of Will Owens happened to a very painful accident Monday. While playing with her sister Grace, who was holding an ax in her hand accidentally dropped it on Lena's hand, severing the 4th finger almost entirely. - Will O'dell and Claude Griffin were down from Mt Vernon Saturday returning Sunday. - Miss Lula Argenbright entertained Tuesday evening in honor of her guests, Misses Lidda Lemasters and Florence Price, of Lexington. - Messrs. Alf and Rosco Griffin, of Jellico, were on Monday's morning train enroute to Louisville. -- Miss Ethel Hayes is quite sick at this writing. - Mrs. Ed Quinn and children returned to their home in Paris Wednesday. -- Mrs. Drummond has joined her husband here again to visit relatives and friends for a week. - The little children of Mr. and Mrs. R. Sparks have had the measles but are convalescent. - Livingston is gradually growing better and we were informed this morning of a very important change to be made in the near future that will benefit Livingston a great deal. - Mr. George Cook led the prayer meeting Wednesday evening, and a very enjoyable hour was spent in serving, the Great Giver of all gifts. -- Mrs. Lottie Langley has returned from a two weeks visit with relatives at Lancaster. - Mr. and Mrs. Chappel are visiting in Louisville for a few days. - Mr. and Mrs. Nat McWhorter have moved into the house belonging to Mrs. Sue Mullins which was recently vacated by Mrs. Hagan. - Mr. and Mrs. Mat Ford moved their household goods to East Bernstadt Thursday. - Dr. J. F. Baugh, formerly of London, but now of the Medical College of Louisville, spent a few days with the family of Mr. George Cook first of last week. - John Mullins was in Mt Vernon Wednesday. GRIFFINS MILL NEWS Uncle John Major is at the point of death. - Uncle John Hurst is some better. - Sunday school at Poplar Grove is getting on very nicely. - J. L. Hasty remains about as usual. - Dan miller has moved his heading mill from the cross- roads to the Hamm neighborhood. - Coleman Broughton, of Somerset, was visiting relatives here Saturday and Sunday. - W. H, Brown and family visited relatives Saturday and Sunday. - W. H. Brown and family visited at W. B. Poteets Saturday and Sunday. - Mrs. J. B. Cummins visited Mrs. J. W. Brown Sunday. - W. H. Brown has started his huxter wagon and goes to Brodhead heavy every week. - Some of our farmers have started planting corn. - Josiah Cummins and M. F. Craig of Quail, attended Sunday school here Sunday. - Joseph Brown and family visited relatives near Brodhead Saturday and Sunday. - John Alfred Hasty bought of Dr. Price a pair of three year old mules for $250.00. - As the time is growing near we will again announce the 2nd Sunday in May as the day set apart for the dedication of the Poplar Grove church. Rev. Coker will preach the dedication sermon. A very large crowd is expected. QUAIL NEWS Jacob Elder is visiting Dr. Morris at Maywood. - Mr. Wm. Smock, of Danville, is in this part calling on one of our fair sex. - Morris Taylor and Elbert Elder spent Saturday night with Walter Elder, at Eubanks. - The Broughton Bros. have sold their saw mill and grist mill to a Mr. Johnson for $300. - Alex Proctor bought of W. R. Brown a seven-year-old mare for $100. - Miss Annie Parsons left Friday for her home in Livingston. - Walker Scott is improving. - Mr. S. F. Long is on the matrimonial list. - Mrs. Mattie Owens still improves. - J. W. Stringer and wife spent Sunday with his brother, Lincoln Stringer, of the Ottawa neighborhood. - Most of the farmers will soon be ready to plant corn, but lookout brother farmers, our prophet says winter will last until the 10th of May. Gee Whiz! Don't look look spring will ever come, doesn't it. - Born to the wife of Manuel Caldwell on the 22nd, a boy. - Wm. Taylor has a very sick child. - Emitt Reynolds, of the Big Glade section spent Saturday until last Monday with relatives at Livingston. Joe Logsdon, better known as Emmit, will leave for Somerset soon. - J. W Stringer, one of our most substantial citizens, was in Mt Vernon Monday. - T. D. Mullins, the drummer, was through this part first of the week. - James Thompson is no better. - E. A. Herrin will soon have his new dwelling completed. - Earnie Herron is plastering the new Baptist church at Brodhead. ORLANDO NEWS Mrs. James Anderson of Livingston was at this place Monday. - Mr. Wm McNew who has been sick several weeks is much better. - Mrs. Flurra Bales and children of Cortbin are visiting her mother Mrs. Hettie Mason. - Dr. Lusk of Berea was called to see Miss Salie Barnett, last Friday in consultation with Dr. W. D. Laswell. She is still very sick but slowly improving. - The Rev. G. A. Manus who some years ago was a citizen of this vicinity, preached at McNews chapel Tuesday night. - The infant child of James Riddle died last week. - Mr. George Proctor is reported very low. - Mrs. Lillie Hundley and children were the guests of her sister, Mrs B. G. Mullins of Pine Hill from Saturday until Monday. - A wedding is expected in these parts soon. - Mrs. Troxel who for several years has been living in Missouri is visiting her daughters Mrs. Birtie Proctor and Mrs. Mollie Davidson. - Mr. Harris, the scale man was in our town last week and sold one pair of scales to J. H. James and sons, of Dudley. - Mr. Marvel Coffey of Hummell who has been very sick is reported some better. - Mr. Lee Chestnut and little neice Ethel, were visiting his sister Mrs. Sallie McHargue of Pine Hill last week. - The Sabbath school at Maple Grove is progressing nicely. OTTAWA NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Brown and family, of near Quail, visited J. W. Brown and family Sunday. - James Farris sold to Miss Iva Brown, a fine filly for $90. - S. T. Proctor was in Brodhead Friday and Saturday on business. - The universe is again covered with beautiful foliage which makes for a joyful time for people as well as birds, etc, and the farmers of this section are about ready to plant corn. - Mr. Levi Sowder, the huxter, of Preachersville, was in this section Tuesday. - The wheat crop seems to be on the decline after the recent cold spell. - Mrs. Mary Brown who has been very sick with the measles is reported better at this issue. - J. B. Sutton and family visited Jack Sutton and family at Bromo Saturday and Sunday. - Charlie Sowder was in Preachersville Friday on business. - J. T. Brown has returned to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he has been located for quite a while. - Messrs. Graden and James F. Proctor visited relatives here Sunday. - Charlie Sowder sold to Bill Elmore 8 hogs averaging 85 pounds each at 6 cents. - Greenie Sutton of near Bee Lick visited relatives and friends here Saturday and Sunday. - Rev. L. D. Gooch filled his regular appointment here at Union Sunday. -- Messrs. Tart Proctor and Charlie Sowder visited relatives at Quail Sunday. - Several of the young men of this section were home from the railroad Saturday and Sunday. - Charlie Brown called on one of Lincoln county's best looking belles Sunday. - Robert Brown visited J. Miller is very sick this week. - Big "Jim" Hayes was on our streets yesterday. - Dr. Adkins has returned from a visit to Glencoe, Ky. - James Adams, of West Main street has been ill of erysipelas. - Dan Roach and wife are visiting homefolks in Manchester. - Albert Hamlin has returned to his Tennessee loging camp. - Mrs. J. T. Tate was visiting Mrs. Alice Tate this week. - Abel Pennington, Jr., was up from Livingston Wednesday. - J. J. McCall, the Hazel Patch merchant, was here Wednesday. - Miss Edith Phillips of Wildie is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Alice Tate. - Miss Rose McFerron is the 4th grade teacher at Brown Memorial School. - Mr. Scobee, the Winchester spoke man, was here during the week. - Mrs. Rosa and Miss Ann Branaman were here from Wildie Wednesday. -- E. B. Brown, brakeman, was with homefolks latter part of last week. - D. N. Welch, the Berea traveling man was "chiseling" around town Wednesday. - Misses Allie Lee Houk aand Montie Martin were visiting in Maretburg Sunday. - Mr. and Mrs. Ramus, of San Francisco, sare visiting Mrs. Fredrick and family. - Judge L. W. Bethurum, County Attorney S. D. lewis, Dr. D. B. Southard, G. T. Johnson, Issac Bowman, Bogue Phillips, J. J. Wood, Jacob Sambrook, O. V. Jarret, R. L. McFerron, G. S. Griffin, T. J. Nicely, and John Robins were the delegates from Rockcastle to the Republican Convention at Mt.
