Poynter was in Stanford Tuesday. - Tip Herd has gone to Cincinnati to work. - I. .A. Bowman is in Jackson county looking after his cattle. - Supt. G. M. Ballard attended Berea commencement exercises. - Mrs. Lou Boulware will go to Kingston today to visit relatives. - Raymon Dowell is able to be out again after an illness of several weeks. - D. G. Roach came yesterday to assist C. C. Williams' till after court. - Mrs. Sallie Birdwell, of Taylorsville, is visiting her niece, Mrs. W. R. Briscoe. - Circuit Clerk J. F. Griffin and family spent Sunday with his mother near Wildie. - Mrs. Jonas McKensie after an illness of several weeks is very much improved. - Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Ramsey attended commencement exercises at Berea this week. - Mrs. W. J. Sparks and daughter, Mattie B. are with relatives at Middlesboro this week. - Mr. and Mrs. H. McFerron spent Wednesday night with their son, Sheriff R. L. McFerron. - Al Evans, a son of Nate Evans, of Knoxville, spent a few days with his cousin, Walter Miller. - Mrs. Cleo Brown spent Saturday until Monday with her son, McKensie, at Williamsburg. - Mrs. Hutcheson and daughter, of Owenton, are guests of her daughter, Mrs. M. B. Salin. - J. A. Dolan and family, of East Bernstadt, spent Saturday until Tuesday with his sister, Mrs. R. A. Welch. - Mrs. D. N. Williams will leave today for Covington to spend some time with her son, Judge R. G. Williams. - James J. White was up from Stanford Monday and Tuesday shaking hands with his many friends here. - Misses Sallie Evans and Myrtle Adams, of Brodhead, were guests of Mrs. G. M. Ballard and Miss Lizzie Adams this week. - W. J. Sparks was in Louisville this week to see about buying the machinery for his new rock-crusher to be installed near Nashville. - The many friends of E. A. Herrin will be grieved to learn of his serious condition. He is a very sick man and much uneasiness is felt about him. - D. W. Dowell, of Bowling Green, special agent for the Turner, Day & Woolworth Handle Co. was here this week looking for timber for his company. He was the guest of the family of L. T. Welch. - Mrs. R. B. Mullins will join her daughter, Miss Margarite, here today and go to Fountainhead to visit her mother Miss Margarite will spend the remainder of the summer with her grandmother after she returns from a visit to her aunt in Texas. - J. H. Vahn, of Livingston, the Sunday School lecturer, spent Wednesday and yesterday here. Mr. Vahn will give his stereopticon views and lecture here next Monday night, June 10th. It will either be at the Courthouse or the Christian church. LOCAL NEWS A message received here last night stating that Will Smith got his hand cut off in the Corbin yard. - Mr. Oscar Hiatt, of Cleveland and Miss Anna Pritchett, of near Danville, were married last evening at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. Cash Hiatt. The groom is a nephew of our townsman, G. S. Hiatt. - DEAD: John Hilton died at his home at Bailey's Switch June 3rd, 1907 of pneumonia fever. He was born in Owsley county, Ky., July 28th, 1841. He was a member of the F. and A.M. Lodge, was a veteran of the Civil War, Company d, 8th Ky.Vol. He was a member of the Baptist church in good standing. He leaves a widow who was Miss Margaret Durbin, and three sons, James E., John C., and William D. Hilton and four daughters, Mrs. Will McCullum, of Rockford, and Mrs. J. T. Bailey, of Bailey's Switch, Mrs. W. F. Tubbs, of Knoxville, and Mrs. J. T. Blankenship, of Ettawah, Tenn., to mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent father and husband. - The Rockcastle Spoke Co. is a thing of the past, although the entire amount of stock had been subscribed and the articles of incorporation were ready to file with the Secretary of State. A little breach between Mr. Shobe, the promoter, and the local parties interested, caused the burst up. BRODHEAD NEWS Mrs. G. W. Brooks and sister, Miss Clyde Wilmott visited their many friends and relatives on Copper Creek this week. - A visit to Albright and Francisco's Marble shop in our city revealed several things which we had never dreamed of. They have added another room to their shop and have at present over thirty orders for monuments of the nicest quality. They are certainly doing a good business. They are both first class workmen. - W. H. Anderson, operator at Spokane, is at home for a few days on the sick list. - Miss Myrtle Adams of Lebanon Junction is visiting her many friends here and at Mt Vernon. - Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hutcheson and son James Edward are visiting Mrs. Hutcheson's parents in Mercer county this week. - H. B. McClary has gone to Pine Knot, Ky. to act as cashier of Pine Knot Banking Co., during Cashier McFees absence. - Walter G. Smith, Cashier of Farmers Bank at Summersville was here Tuesday to see Cashier Hutcheson of Citizens Bank. - Dr. O. O. Stone has returned home after spending a week with homefolks at Cumberland Gap, Tenn. - Miss Francis Forbes of Level Green is a charming visitor of Miss Burdette Owens for a few days. - Mrs. Percy Benton and daughter, Miss Willie, were up from Crab Orchard Springs yesterday. - John Nevins was in town last week. - J. F. Watson is attending the bedside of his mother at Bee Lick who is very ill of a complication of diseases. - Amos V. Smith has accepted a very lucrative position with Downs and Rankin at Corbin and has gone there to take charge of his new duties. - Miss Lizzie Storms has returned to her home at Keavy after spending a week here. - Mrs. W. K. Shugars and son went to Stanford Wednesday to attend the funeral of Miss Nannie Vandiveer. - Messrs. M. C. and R. E. Albright, M. B. Bowling (W. T., Jno. E., Thos. W., and Conn Evans), O, A. and J. G. Frith, U. G. Cass, Mr. and Mrs. Ballard and Bryan Owens were among those who attended the Berea College Exercises from here Wednesday. - DEAD: On last Friday at 10:30 A. M. the Almighty reached down his hand and took from our midst our beloved brother and neighbor Joel L. Robins aged 62. Three sons and one daughter are left to mourn the loss. Mr. Robins was a devout Christian and was a member of the Baptist church having made a confession while a young man. He was also a member of the Mason Fraternity at this place and after an able funeral discourse preached by Rev. A. J. Pike he was laid to rest by the honor of that order in the Baptist cemetery. OTTAWA NEWS The recent rain was badly needed in this section. - Fred Wallen who has been confined to his room with measles is able to be out again. - Most of the farmers in this section are through planting corn, some have commenced plowing over for the first time. - Reubin Wallen, who has been at work on the railroad for sometime has gone to work for J. J. Brown. - J. M. Craig was in this section Friday last. - Messrs. J. B. Sutton and Gradon Proctor visited relatives and friends at Preachersville Friday Night. - Misses Rebecca Albright and Pearlie Ping were the pleasant guests of Miss Maud Cash Friday. - Charlie Brown visited friends near Kreuger Friday and Saturday. - Mr. and Mrs. John Sowder visited the formers sister, Mrs. John Winkler of near Brodhead Sunday. - J, B. Sutton sold to Mr. Andrew Thompson of Preachersville, a sow and five pigs for $10. - Mrs. Mary Brown and little daughter, Roberta visited relatives and friends near Krueger Saturday. - Don't fail to attend the decoration at Providence church tomorrow June 8th. - Miss Ella Hayes of Lincoln county visited relatives here Saturday and Sunday. - Jesse W. Brown and family visited J. B. Sutton and family Sunday. -- Vessie Brown left Saturday for Cincinnati. - Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Brown visited the formers parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Brown Sunday. - Mrs. Daniel Brown visited friends at Ottenheim Saturday and Sunday. - Messrs. Graden and James Proctor visited relatives and friends here Sunday. - Mr. and Mrs. Tart Proctor spent Sunday with the latters sister, Mrs. John Cash, of Wabd. - Ransom Brown visited and family visited J. B. Sutton Sunday. - Mrs. S. T. Proctor visited relatives at Brodhead Monday last. - F. L. Thompson the drummer, of Mt Vernon, was in this part Tuesday. DEAD: Mr. Dick Smith, formerly of this place, but who resided at Kings Mountain at the time of his death, died Tuesday after an illness of only a few days with pneumonia. CONWAY NEWS The Roundstone Land Co. have their shingle machine in first class order here now with a new edger. It is the latest improved and they are now ready to cut shingles to a finish. - Miss Nannie Fritz of Waco in Madison county visited Mrs. George Cornelson here last week. - Harvey Chenault and D. C. Pullins attended county court at Richmond Monday. - The shooting affair which took place here Sunday morning about 8 o'clock created a great excitement. We do not know the particulars therefore we will not undertake to explain. - The bees have had a hard row to weed this spring. They have had to hustle between cold spells and rain to make ends meet. - Judge J. C. Chanault of Richmond was here this week on business. - This is one of the greatest places on earth for watch trading. Most of all the boys have a watch of some kind and are continually trading them. That's right boys trade among yourselves and keep the boot money at home. - Mrs. D. C. Pullins bought a little knotty jersey calf from a neighbor last fall for $3.00. She paid for it with butter at 15 cents per Lb. She sold the calf last week to Gib Alexander for $15.00 cash. A pretty good deal. LIVINGSTON NEWS Mrs. Rowzee has returned to her home after short visit to friends and relatives at Mt Vernon and Brodhead. - Miss Fannie Douglas and brother, Fulton of Jellico, have been spending a few days with their aunt, Mrs. Jennie Cockrell, of this place. - Miss Lida Cook was in Louisville Tuesday shopping. - Mrs. W. D. Griffin, Jellico, Tenn., is the pleasant guest of her sister, Mrs. George Griffin, and niece, Mrs. Clara Hays and mother, Mrs. Ann Owens. - Mrs. Lizzie Bowman. formerly of Owensboro, Ky., but now of Florida, is visiting Mrs. "Bud" Cockrell. Mrs. Bowman will probably make this place her home. - Mrs. Ann Owens has returned from a visit to relatives and friends at Mullins Station. - Mrs. Huston McFerron and sister left for Winchester, Ky., Saturday to spend a few days with her brother living at that place. - Miss Lillie Carter has returned from a pleasant visit with Mrs. George Reynolds at Corbin. - Michel Owens was visiting his sister, Mrs. James Taylor, Saturday and Sunday. - Mesdames G. W. and W. D. Griffin spent Monday and Tuesday at Maretburg. - Will O'Dell and Ben Griffin were down from Mt Vernon from Friday until Sunday. - Messrs. James Taylor and Jake Pike are in Corbin in the interest of the L. & N. - Will Owens is down from East Bernstadt visiting his mother, Mrs. David Owens. - Miss Nell McFerron was here from Mt Vernon last week visiting Miss Georgia McFerron and Mrs. W. J. Childress. - Miss Anna Bell Dishon is the charming guest of her sister, Mrs. R. A. Whitehead and aunt, Mrs. George Pope. - Miss Bessie Mullins has returned home after a short visit with Miss Cora Adams. - Mr. and Mrs. Ed Quinn have returned to their home in Paris after a weeks visit with relatives here. - J. T. Johnson was with relatives and friends at Lancaster from Friday until Monday. - Charles Preston has returned from a visit with relatives in Cincinnati. - Mrs. Charles Harris and little Elmer, are out from Cincinnati visiting friends and relatives. - Mrs. Nan McWhorter was in Mt Vernon Monday on business. - Mrs. Susie Mullins has been spending a few days with relatives and friends at East Bernstadt. - Henry Delph has moved his family back to old Livingston again. He has purchased the house and ten acres of land adjoining Jacob Sambrooks store. - Mrs. John Shearer and children have returned to their home in Paris after a short visit with Mr. and Mrs. J. C.
