He was born in Phelps, Dec. 4, 1915, a son of the late Floyd and Stella Dotson Smith. He was a retired coal miner, and of the Pentecostal faith. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Augusta Charles Smith; two sons, Anthony Smith Jr. and Gary Allen Stump; two infant children; two brothers; and two grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Tomblin Smith; five sons, Danny Smith of Phelps, Monvil Stump of Kimper, Otis Eugene Stump and James Elmer Stump, both of Columbus, Ohio, L.H. Stump of Oak Hill, Ohio; five daughters, Diane Dotson of Clay City, Lola Rice of South Shore, Juanita Bowling of Phelps, Dimple O’Quinn of Mouthcard, Carol Sue Sanders of Phelps; one brother, Mose Smith of Cynthiana; 40 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in The Lord’s House, Phelps, with the Revs. Mitch Bowling, Willie Gordon and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Roxie Taylor Cemetery, Phelps. Arrangements are under direction of Phelps Funeral Services of Phelps. Visitation is at the church after 6 p.m. Friday, with special services Friday and Saturday at 7.
