Barnes one time pastor of the Tolesboro and Concord churches to wed Miss Mildred Chiles Bradford, Thursday, April 11 at four o'clock at the Falmouth Christian Church. ......... ________ Celebrate Golden Wedding On Saturday, March 23rd, 1907 Mr. and Mrs. A. F. May celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding at their home at Poplar Flat. The following of their children were present: Mrs. Fannie Greenhow, of Martin; Mrs. Effie Marshall, of Covedale; Marcus May and wife, of Poplar Flat; Chas. May, of Portsmouth. Other children could not be present on account of sickness and distance: Mrs. Ada McGovney, Mrs. Stella Greenhow and J. E. May celebrated the day in Pittsburg. Mr. and Mrs. May have raised ten children, all married except Charley who is destined to trot in single harness. The oldest son Angus, resides at Diamond, Ark., Mrs Emma Meglason at Hiko., Texas and Maud at Rardon, Ohio............. ________ Centennial Anniversary April 27, 1907 will be the centennial anniversary of the organization of Lewis county. Lewis County was created from a part of Mason county by an act of the Legislature on December 2, 1806 and a supplemental act of Dec 27th of the same year. The first court was held at Poplar Flat on April 27th, 1807 at the home of Okie Henderson. Walker Reed was County Clerk and Geo Fearis, Jno. G. McDowell, Aaron Stratton, Jno. Stephenson, Lannon Colbert, Geo Brown, Hugh Hanna and John Dyal were magistrates. An appropriate celebration of the event will probably be arranged in connection with the Lewis County Fair. _______ Mrs. Geo. Willim visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Jones, in Portsmouth, Sunday until Tuesday. Granville Staggs is again able to be out after an illness of several weeks. We are glad to note that E. G. Clark is again able to be out. ______ Tannery Josiah Goodwin one of our most prominent citizens, died last Wednesday evening at 9:45 of a complication of diseases after an illness of six months. He was born July 14, 1843........One child by his first wife, Miss Armstrong, lived to grow to womenhood and is the wife of Wm. McCarty, of Mouth of Laurel. After the death of his first wife he married Miss Nancy E. Liles, daughter of Henry and to this union were born 10 children. The living children by the last marriage are James H., of Tacoma, Wash.; Charles E. of Cincinnati; Lula, wife of Wm. Charlton, of Curtin, W. Va.; William, of Charleston, W. Va., and Thomas, Conner, Russell, Josiah and Hattie of this place. _______ Concord A. M. Grimes, of Delaware, O. is visiting his parents here. John Call and family moved to Mrs. Purcell's farm. Oscar Rugless, of Washington, D. C. is visiting his mother here. John Brannon and family moved to New Boston., Ohio, last Tuesday. Mrs. H. L. Bilyeu has returned from a visit to her daughter at Portsmouth. Wm. McClain and Charles Highfield, of the C. & O. carpenter froce, were at home last Sunday. ________ Tolesboro Miss Bertha Conway, of Ashland is visiting her parents here. Mrs. Nettie Williams, nee Barkley, of Lexington, is visiting her mother, Mrs. Matt Barkley. Mrs. J. B. Bradley is at the bedside of her sister, Mrs. Hoffman of Bridgeport. Monroe County Biographical Sketches, Richland Township, p. 637 Austin B. REEVES, farmer and stock-raiser, is a son of Benjamin and Nancy Reeves, the former a native of Virginia, the latter of Kentucky. Austin S. REEVES, grandfather of our subject, as a Revolutionary soldier, and Benjamin REEVES was a hero of the war of 1812. In 1820, he ame to this county, passing down the Ohio in a flat-boat he had built. As a result of his industry, he acquired 160 acres, and made a good home from the virgin land. He was a Whig, and died February, 1846, aged sixty-six; his wife passed away seven years previous, aged fifty-four years. They were the parents of nine daughters and two sons. Austin B. REEVES was born in Van Buren Township August 27, 1829, and the eldest son of the family. He was brought up to industry and to farming. When seventeen years old, was left an orphan, and became an apprentice to blacksmithing; served nearly four years, and received only board and clothes. Later, he purchased the homestead farm, and devoted his time to agriculture. In 1882, he sold this farm and purchased his present home. August 5, 1854, he married Arabelle I. PAULEY, of this county, and to this union seven children came to bless it, six of whom are living - Garrison P., Flora B., Mary H., John Mc., B. Colfax and Austin M. Mr. REEVES is a liberal and worthy citizen, a Republican, and a member of the Patrons of Husbandry. Mrs. REEVES is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Nash (nee Osborne), Lewis County November 4, 1937 Lewis Co., Kentucky Mrs. Mary D. Nash, 79, widow of the Late Edward Nash, died Sunday night at 8 0'clock at Hayswood Hospital, Maysville where she had been a patient for four days. Pneumonia was the cause of death. The venerable woman, daughter of the Late Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson* Osborne and Rachel Ann Marshall* was born on Cabin Creek, but spent most of her life at Epworth. Since the death of her husband, who was struck and killed by a C. & O. train at the main street crossing in Maysville more than two years ago, Mrs. Nash had resided with her grandson, Clifford E. Nash, of Forest Avenue, Maysville. She was a member of the Gallilee Christian Church. She is survived by her grandson, and three great grand children. Two sons, Oscar Nash, of Maysville and Noah Nash, of Lexington, preceded her in death.
