Kansas City--Services were held Monday for Fred MATTHIAS, 65, former farmer in Newman and Perry communities, who died Friday in a hospital here. Burial will be in Newman Cemetery. Mr. Matthias was born Jan. 23, 1896, at Newman in Jefferson County. He moved to Kansas City about 15 years ago as an employe of the Santa Fe Trail Transportation Co. He was a veteran of World War I, and a charter member of the Perry American Legion Post, No. 142. Survivors include his widow, Edna, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Gilbert WHITE of 1715 W. 27th and Mrs. Marie ADKINS of Houston; his mother, Mrs. Kate Matthias, of Perry; two brothers, Frank of 1919 Mission and William of Scandia; four sisters, Mrs. Amelia SHIRLEY of Grantville, Mrs. Katie MOORE of 3310 N. Central, Mrs. Anna TENNPENNY and Miss Mathhias both of Perry and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
