Reneau Was An Early Settler. Passed Away at his Home near Harper, Dec. 21 -- Was 76 Years and 17 Days of Age. William Thomas RENEAU, age 76 years and 17 days, died Dec. 21, 1931 at his home near Harper, Kansas. The deceased was born at Dandridge, Tenn., on March 4th, 1855. At an early age he came to Kansas, being among the pioneers who have settled and developed our state. It was here that he met and was married to Mary Jane Reneau, on Dec. 7, 1891, at Anthony, Kansas. To this union there were born eleven children, three of whom have preceded him in death, Bessie, Charley and Beulah Reneau. He is survived by eight children living, Mrs. Walter KISER, Mrs. Clyde ELLIS, Mrs. Lester JESSEP, Mrs. Floyd HILL, Mrs. Ivan BRUCE, Miss Eunice Reneau and two sons, Hobart and Roy, all of whom were present at the funeral; seventeen grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Mr. Reneau came to Kansas when homes were not so thickly established as now, our highway system unknown, and the means of transportation was the old covered wago. As an early pioneer he has played his part in ushering in the new era we enjoy today. He has labored well, and may he sleep in peace, receiving just reward for his work and faith. May we who remain pick up the torch and carry on where this our friend, husband, and father hath laid it down; and may we carry on with the same enthusiasm, that has enabled these men to build a nation. Funeral services were held in the Gem mortuary at Anthony, Dec. 24, 1931, conducted by Rev. C. Stocking, pastor of the Danville and Runnymede M.E. churches. Pall-bearers were Mr. John HARRISON, Mr. Roy EASTELRY, Mr. ELLIS, Mr. Joe FLINN, Mr. Fed DURDEN and Mr. Ern JOHNSON. Interment was made in the Silver Grove cemetery. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.org/ks/harper/obits/r/reneau1753ob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/ksfiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
