Thus reads the preamble to the temporary constitution of the American Legion. Early in 1919 several officers and men from every division in France met in Paris and started the movement towards the organization of the American Legion. In May 1919 the temporary organization was perfected in St. Louis. The local post was organized August 29, 1919, with 133 charter members and is known as the Charles Sturdivant Post No. 46. The following officers were selected: Chairman, Cleon Wade Mount; Vice-chairman, Frank Russell; Secretary-treasurer, Glen Whisler. In October 1919, the Raymond Landon Post was organized at Windfall with Dr. B. V. Chance, chairman, Glen Francis, vice-chairman and Loyd Landon, secretary.
