The Republicans of this county cannot afford to be without a paper and should encourage us by subscribing and urging their neighbors to.” 12 Feb 1880 LOCAL NOTICES HA STULTZ has been in Greene County this week. SO PICKENS has been attending court at Martinsville this week. Carpenters are now making a new house out of Mrs. BROWN’s old one. Mrs. JA MCKENNA left for Ironton, Ohio, Friday, to visit her mother. Dr. Willard BRIDGES, of Jordan Village was in town Friday night. JL PIERSON has been at Edwardsport for the past two weeks buying lumber. Supt. EW MCKENNA and WF FOX, train dispatcher, were in town Tuesday night. The report that CF KELLY would return to the quarry at this place is a mistake. Phillip MILLER has a good line of groceries which he wants to sell at bottom prices. CURTIS and FISHER warrant all work done at their grist mill and solicit custom grinding. If you want to keep your husbands in good spirits, ladies, try those juicy steaks at Orie PRICE’s. Buy a few heads of those fine cabbages at SADLER, GREENE & CO –just received from the city. Messrs. GREENE and ELLIS will be pleased to have all their friends call on them at BEEM’s old stand. ELLIOTT, the artist, has employed Mr. COLLINS, of Ohio, to work in his gallery. Mr. C. is a first class workman. Orie PRICE has had the front of his shop painted red, and hereafter his establishment will be known as the “Red Front” Wm. PARKER, of this place, but section foreman at Marco, has been at home for a week on account of the sickness of his son Willie. Last Friday, Mrs. Amanda SHARP, of Ellettsville was thrown from a horse and an arm and leg broken. She is in a precarious condition, we learn. Dr. JN CONNELLY who left Bloomfield so mysteriously a few weeks ago, has been heard from. He is on is way to Texas, and promises to send for his family soon. At one time he was one of the most prominent men in Greene County and one of the wealthiest but he became involved and lost all of his property. Judge FRANKLIN is not at Martinsville holding court in place of Judge ROBINSON who is at home because of sickness in his family. Last Friday evening, John G. BROWN was murdered near Indianapolis. Mrs. BROWN, his wife and a man named WADE, her paramour are now in jail charged with the murder. Today SADLER, GREEN & CO will connect their two stores by telephone. This week that firm has received several car loads of goods and their stores present a very busy appearance. JW BRIDGES’ store at Fillmore, Putnam County was entered one night last week and the safe blown open, the noise of which attracted the proprietor of the store. One of the parties has been arrested. TJ HARRIS will move into his new room soon. The room is attractive in appearance. The carpenter work under the supervision of ELLIS Brothers, and paper-hanging and painting by CW GREEN are first class. We are pleased to inform our readers that Orie ALLISON who was severely hurt by a powder explosion week before last is now able to be out. It was feared that he would lose the sight of one of his eyes, but he will not. Died—Three miles north of Spencer, on Thursday night, of puerperal fever, the wife of Thomas RICHARDS. Her remains were interred at this place Saturday. Also, infant of Thomas RICHARDS, on Saturday. WA MOUNT is still confined to his room. Mrs. SINEX of Bloomington left here Tuesday. Ben. FRANKLIN left for Indianapolis Tuesday to resume his studies. Miss Katie COFFEY went to Bedford Tuesday to remain a few days. THOMAS & HOPPER shipped a car load of horses to Bamburg, SC Tuesday. TH BOSWELL & CO. have added an elegant stock of clothing to their stock. Mr. PHILHOUR left here Tuesday with a car load of find horses for New Jersey. A RATHBORN, a lumber dealer of New York , well known here, was in town this week. Rev. JC FLETCHER, of Indianapolis, lectured at Union Hall last night. Subject: Switzerland. WS MEAD has shipped during the last nine months from Bedford to LaFayette, 158 car loads of staves. Trustee COLLINS has visited the different schools of the township and finds them in good running order. JL STULTZ and John REBARGER have announced themselves candidates for Commissioner and Treasurer. Thomas RICHARDS, whose wife and child died last week, was dangerously ill last Saturday, but is now out. WS MEED has bought four acres of ground adjoining DE BEEM’s and will soon erect a comfortable, cozy dwelling. The bridge on the narrow gauge road, near Bloomfield, which was washed out recently is now being rebuild by Mr. JETT. Miss Jennie JOBES who fell and sprained her leg went to the Surgical Institute at Indianapolis, Tuesday for treatment. A young gentleman boarder now takes his meals at AW FULLERTON’s. How this Republican gains tend to fire the Democratic heart WL DAGGY is building a room in which to keep agricultural implements on the lot of Mrs. BROWN, just north of WHITTAKER’s meat ship. For several days, Eld. BUCHANAN has been conducting a protracted meeting at Mill Creek church which closed Monday. Three of TJ HARRIS’ smallest children, Winnie, Rosa and Pearl, have had the scarlet fever, but are now better. Jesse, son of Judge ROBINSON, has been very sick, but is now better. All the victims in town are in a fair way to recover and physicians think the disease is rapidly abating. On Monday evening, SO PICKENS, SL WALLACE, NW WILLAMS, WL DAGGY, ER BLADEN, WS MEAD, John WAYLAND, John MCKENNA, PA MCALISTER and John Richards went to Indianapolis to see EW MCKENNA, of the I and V road, raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. Some months ago, a young Mr. BRITT, was arrested and tried for assault and sentences to jail on refusing to pay his fine, but eluded the constable and left town to the time of a quick step. Last Saturday he made his appearance and collared by Constable COOPER. After amusing the constable and several deputies for some time, and attracting a large crowd around him, BRITT, finally “submitted,” was tried by Squire CULVER and sent to jail on failure to pay fine and cost to the amount of thirty dollars. Capt. CURRY the lumber man means business. He has brought tow log teams from Putman and from this on we expect to see logs in the air. And now Addison ABRAMS, the accomplished mud dauber, comes to the front as the young man most universally admired by the ladies of this section. Ad’s a smasher, I tell you.
