Mary Rita Phelan, 89, of Carthage, formerly of rural Wilmington, died May 29, 
2007 at Carthage Hospital.

Visitation: 3 pm to 7 pm Sunday at the Reeves Funeral Home, Wilmington. 

Funeral:  Monday, at 9:30 am with a processional to St. Patrick's Catholic 
Church in Wilton Center, for 10 am Mass of Christian Burial.

Rev. Gerald Schubert will officiate.

Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wilmington. 

Preferred memorials may be made to:
Kuzma Care Cottage, 635 S. Main St., Wilmington, IL 60481; or 
St. Patrick Catholic Church in Wilton Center, 14936 W. Peotone Road, Manhattan, 
IL 60442-0062. 

Emplyed by Public Services and was engaged in farming with her husband. 

Born May 12, 1918, in Wilton Township, to William Sylvester and Catherine 
Angela Ardaugh Lawler. 

She married her husband, James Phelan, October 11, 1941, at St. Joseph Catholic 
Church, Manhattan.  He died in 2002. 

1936 graduate of Peotone High School and a graduate of Felt and Tarrant School 
of Comptometry in Chicago. 

Member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Wilton Center for over 60 years, 
where she was involved with the Altar and Rosary Society. 

Survivors: 
Her children:
Bill (Georgia) Phelan of Florence Township
Dan (Lynn) Phelan, of Florence Township 
Gerald (the late Vicky) Phelan of Wesley Township 
Ed (Judy) Phelan of Macomb 
Mary (Mike) Lappe of Chicago

11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren 
1 nephew, James Lawler of Manhattan.

Preceded in death by:
Her parents 
1 granddaughter, Theresa Osburn (2005)
1 brother, Virgil Lawler
1 daughter-in-law, Vicky Phelan (1988)
