Obituary of Elizabeth Jane (Chapman) Towell - Montgomery County, Illinois The following is the obituary of Elizabeth Jane (Chapman) Towell, the maternal great, great, grandmother of Olin Clayton April 12, 1907 Hillsboro Journal Mrs. I.T. Towell Mrs. Elizabeth Jane (Chapman) Towell was born in Jackson County, Kentucky, July 1, 1843; died at her home near Chapman, Il at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, April 7, 1907; aged 63 years, 9 months and 6 days. When she was young, her parents with ten children, came to this county and settled near Sorento. On the 4th of July, 1860, she was married to Isaac Thomas Towell, then at Walshville. When the war broke out the husband went to the front leaving his young wife and son behind. After the war they settled in Witt township where they lived many years. About 12 years ago he moved to Chapman. Besides her husband, there are nine children: John W. Towell of Walshville; Mrs. Laura Lee, Mrs. Mattie Bauerle, Mrs. Nora Best, Mrs. Ida Armentrout of Witt; Mrs. Eva Wright, Isaac Thomas Towell Jr; Elmer Towell and Mrs. Maude Steaphenson of Chapman. There are also a brother John Chapman of Sorento and a sister Mrs. Swafford of Litchfield. At the age of 17, she professed religion and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and she has been a follower of the Master for almost half a century.
