Obituary of Francis Marion MULVANEY, Marion County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Cindy McCachern Obituary of Francis Marion Mulvaney 14 March 1936 Francis Marion, son of Rev. and Mrs. Katie Roberts Mulvaney was born in Fredricksburg, Indiana, November 25, 1866. When a young man he came with his parents to Illinois, but later went back to Indiana. He was married to Ollie M. Houchen of Oakland City, Ind., September 22, 1887. They moved to Illinois soon afterward and settled in Bee Branch district. To this union five children were born, one daughter, Della, having died in infancy. He was the last of a family of nine children. One sister, Mrs. Eva Bradley, of this locality, passed away March, 1929, and a brother, Rev. W. L. Mulvaney of Kansas, January 31, of this year. His father, Rev. Henry Mulvaney, was one of the pioneer ministers of this part of the country and one of the organizers of the Bee Branch church. He was converted in early life and became a member of the M. E. Church at Bee Branch. He was a loyal supporter of Christianity, and firmly believed that right should prevail. He was a good neighbor and alway ready to help anyone in need. When in health he was very active in church work. He served the Sunday school as superintendent for several years. His advice and words of encouragement helped many over the rough places in life. He was a kind husband and father. He had been in poor health for a number of years, which prevented his attendance at church or other public gatherings. He was cared for by his devoted wife, who was always with him to administer to his needs. Saturday afternoon, March 14, 1836 about half past three the portals of the great beyond swung wide and he crossed the threshold to the other side at the age of 69 years, 3 months and 19 days. He leaves a wife and four children; Mrs. Mae Baker of Iuka; Mrs. Ethel Miller of Salem; James and Boyd Mulvaney of Iuka; thirteen grandchildren; Mrs. Melba Dietrich of Salem; Merle Baker of Alma; Mrs. Bessie Miner of Salem; Eugene Baker of Iuka; Mrs. Eva Scott of Hammond, Ind., Mrs. Delma Ogle of Salem; Mrs. Thelma Heenne; Harold Mulvaney; Mrs. Geneva Becker; Norma June, Viola, James and Dorothy Mulvaney all of Iuka. Six great grandchildren; a very dear cousin, Rev. Emmett Mulvaney of Kinmundy, and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held at the Branch church Monday afternoon, March 16, Rev. Tucker of Iuka officiating.
