Pennsylvania Ave., retired insurance and loan broker and Roswell resident for 40 years died at 5:45 PM yesterday in the Joel Green Convalescent Home. Son of Frank GATES, veteran of the War between the States, and Serilda GIBSON GATES, he was born 18 Mar 1870 in Girard, Illinois. When he was in his teens he moved to Trinidad, Colorado where his brother Charles went into the building construction business. In 1916, Mr. GATES came to Roswell and began an insurance and loan business. His office was in the White Building. Mr. Gates and Jessie Montague were married in Roswell in 1939. This was his second marriage. Survivors are the widow and three of his four sons (all of whom served in the first world war). They are Cullen C, of Chicago, Edwin, of Milwaukee, and Rietman C., of Wood, Wisconsin. Wayne another son died in 1933. Sisters are Mrs. Emma GARDNER of Girard, Illinois, and Mrs. Lois GATES TROVER of Carlinville, Illinois, and his brother Edgar GATES of Springfield, Illinois. Funeral services will be at 9 AM, Saturday in Ballard Chapel. Services will be conducted by Dr. Austin H Dillon, First Methodist Minister. Burial will be at South Park Cemetery.
