PALMER To HIRAM HOWARD Know All Men By These Presents That we Sylvanus W. Palmer and Martha Palmer of the county of Kane and State of Illinois in consideration of the sum of Two Hundred Dollars to them paid do by these presents grant bargain sell and convey to Hiram Howard of the County of Kane and State of Illinois all the following described lands situated in the town of Kaneville County of Kane and the State of Illinois and described as follows viz: The North west quarter of the North east quarter of section thirty four (34) Township Thirty nine (39) North Range six (6) East of the Third principal Meridian Containing forty (40) [acres] more or less To have and to hold the same with the privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging to the above named grantee his heirs and assigns forever and we do Warrant the same to be free from all encumberance Whatsoever In Witness Whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this sixth day of October AD 1854 Signed Sealed And Delivered Sylvester [sic.] W. Lee a Justice of the Peace in and for the said county and State aforesaid Do hereby certify that Sylvanus W. Palmer and Martha Palmer who are personally known to me as the real persons whose names are subscribed to the annexed Deed appeared before me this day in person and acknowledged that they executed and delivered the said deed as their free and voluntary act for the uses and purposes set forth and the said Martha Palmer wife of the said Sylvanus W. Palmer having been by me examined separated and apart and out of hearing of her husband and the contents and meaning of the said deed having been by me explained to her she acknowledged that she had freely and voluntarily executed the same and relinquished her dower to the lands and tenements therein mentioned without compulsion of her said husband and that she did not wish to retract the same Given under my hand this Sixth day of October in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and Fifty four R. Sylvanus and Martha moved from Schenectady County, New York to Kane County, Illinois in 1843. In 1863 they removed to Linn County, IA where Martha's and Agnes' mother Martha (Todd) (Clark) Palmer died in 1864. This lady had married, as her second husband, Sylvanus Palmer, father of Sylvanus W.
