Obituary for Marlin E "Chick" Hilgendorf, Iroquois County Illinois Buckley -- Marlin E. "Chick" Hilgendorf, 67, of Buckley died at 5:15 a.m. Saturday (July 23, 1994) at his home after a short illness. His funeral was at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Buckley, the Rev. Edgar L. Peters officiating. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, Buckley, with military rites accorded by the Buckley American Legion Post. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ford-Baier Funeral Home, Buckley, and one hour before the service Monday at the church. He was born Nov. 7, 1926, at Buckley, a son of Edward F. and Lara Hogrefe Hilgendorf. He married Pauline F. Hyde Oct 20, 1951 at Paxton. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Edward M., Buckley; a daughter, Ellen Mary Hilgendorf, Chicago; and two sisters, Irene Luhrsen and Viola Sheetz, both of Buckley. He was preceded in death by a brother. He attended St. John's Lutheran School and graduated from Buckley High School in 1944. He was employed at Kraft Inc., Champaign, for 25 years, retiring in 1988. Mr. Hilgendorf was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church and for several years served on the finance committee. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 and was a member and past commander of the Buckley American Legion Byron Hickerson Post No. 432.
