Obituary of Eva Emma MILLER, Crawford County, Illinois This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Crawford County Web Site OBITUARY: 2/25/1910 Wabash Pearl Eva Emma Miller third daughter of Aaron T. and Elizabeth Miller, was born in Crawford Co., Ill., June 17th 1875. she died at her home in the Province of Saskatchewan Canada on the 15th day of Feb. 1910 at a little before ten o'clock in the morning, aged 34 years, 8 mos. and 4 days. She was married to Hosea W. Hawkins, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas Hawkins of Palestine, on the 9th day of June 1899. Rev. Wilkin pastor of the Flat Rock charge at that time, performed the marriage ceremony. To this union were born 3 children, all girls. The oldest Navna June who is 9 years of age, the second Estel Ireta who is 7 and the third, Vernice Iona who is five. On the 12th day of April 1906, in company with her sister-in-law Mrs. John H. Miller, they left Crawford Co to join their husbands in the previously mentioned Province of Canada, their husbands having gone on before, some six weeks previous to that date, and there she has since made her home until her death. The departure to their new home was full of hope and promise but how different the home coming. To those of us who witnessed it, the little funeral party coming into Palestine on the ten o'clock train last Sunday morning, presented a picture the sadness of which we will not soon forget. The sorrowing brother, the broken hearted husband, the three tired, almost worn out little motherless daughters made an impression on the memory of those witnessing it that will never be erased. The deceased joined the M. E. Church at Wesley Chapel, during the pastorate of Rev. Sale, and her life has always been that of sincere Christian womanhood. By her early death she leaves to mourn their loss, a husband, three little daughters, an aged mother, Mrs.Elizabeth Miller, four brothers, Lou G., John H., Arthur and Harry Miller and Mrs. Fanny Decker, beside many other relatives and friends. To those of us who have know Eva Hawkins from her earliest childhood there seems to be no better language with which to pay tribute to her memory than this, she was indeed a most womanly woman, and a gentle loving mother and wife. Her funeral was preached on Monday the 21st day of Feb. at Wesley Chapel by Rev. O. L. Markman of Palestine at the hour of 2 P.M. after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at that place. 2/25/1910 Wabash Pearl *************************************************************************** USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
