Clements, son of Rev. Jacob Clements and Emmeline Haddon Clements, was born in Cumberland (now Casey), Clark Co, IL on August 20, 1868, and died on Friday, May 22, 1942 in the Union Hospital, Terre Haute, Indiana, aged 73 years, 9 months and 2 days. He was left an orphan before he was 10 years old by the death of his father and mother within 18 months of time. Though his youth was one with much sickness, he early became self reliant and maintained this through a long life. He was married on March 18, 1891 to Emma Nidey, daughter of the late Mathias Nidey Sr. and Nancy Bailiff Nidey. His wife died in September 1894 leaving surviving their son, Olen R. Clemnts, now of Oak Park, Illinois, and their daughter, Ollie Estella Clemnts, who married Otto Nichols of West Union, Illinois in August 1911 and died in June 1914 leaving one son, Dean Clements Nichols, now of Wabash towship, Clark County. He was married a second time in December 1895 to Lyda Belle Reynolds, daughter of the late Harper Reynolds and Kate Bradbury Reynolds, of West York, Illinois. His second wife died in March 1932. To this union were born two daughters, Emma Bryan Clements and Audrey Clements, both of whom died in infancy. Also surviving him are his grandchildren, Lieut. Rober Hamill Clements, of the U.S. Army, Donald O. Clements, and Emmabelle Clements, his two great grandchildrend, Carol Elaine Nichols and Dena Lou Nichols, three step grandchildren, Boyd Nichols, Jack Nichols and Maaggie Tryon and the daughter-in-law, Fayette Hamill Clements, and Grace Adams Nichols, and the son-in-law, Otto Nichols. Rush and Lyda took Mary Heneerson, now the wife of Raymond Tryon of Terre Haute, Indiana, into their home when she was left an orphan at eight years of age, and reared her to maturity. She survives him, and has taught her children to call Mr. Clements "Grandpa." In early manhood Rush united with and was baptized in the the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Melrose township in Clark County, IL. In later years he transferred his membership to the Methodist Church at Snyder, of which he was a member when he died. He expressed his great faith in the future, being ready and willing to go to his reward. Most of his life was spent on the farm in Clark and Crawford Counties, Illinois. He cleared many tracts of land in his youth and middle age, and built several houses that are monuments to his workmanship. He was liked and respected by hosts of people, and leaves many relatives and friends to mourn his passing. The funeral was preached at the Snyder Church on Sunday afternoon by Rev. T. J.
