Obituary. . . Sidney, IL Hilbert A. Block, 79, died at 5 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 22, 1972) at home. He had been in failing health for two years. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Freese Funeral Home at Sidney with Rev. Edward Lipscomb officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sidney. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family asks tangible expressions of sympathy be made to the heart fund. Mr. Block was born Oct. 16, 1892, in Sidney, the son of Henry A. Block and Elizabeth Bamberger Block. He married Ella Lehmkukler in Humingburg, Ind. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Everett of Sidney and Orville of Homer; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Erb of Sidney, Mrs, Flora Schwartz of Sidney, and Mrs. Elma Haas of Sidell; two brothers, Esper of Sidney, and Kerna of Thousand Palms, Calif.,; Seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Block was a member of the Sidney United Church of Christ, the Sidney Senior Citizens Club and the Knights of Pythias. He was a past member of the Sidney Community Board of Education which he served for a number of years. He was Past tax assessor in Sidney. He graduated from Brown Business College of Champaign in 1913.
