Mrs. Lydia M. Ray, wife of Alex Ray of Mulberry Grove, and a half sister of



J.S. Taylor of this city, passed away at her home in Mulberry Grove at 3:15



p.m. Tuesday.  Mrs. Ray had been in failing health for several years, and 

had been confined to her bed for the past four months.  Death was due to 

general senility and obstruction of the bowels.



Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. today, at the Mulberry Grove 

Methodist church, the Rev. J.L. Miller, the pastor, officiating.  Interment



was made at the Mulberry Grove cemetery.



Mrs. Ray's maiden name was Lydia Margaret Taylor, and she was born in 

Pleasant Mount township March 25, 1853, and was aged 87 years, nine months,



and six days.  She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Taylor.  

She was married in 1866 to Joseph Elam, and surviving this union is one 

son, Walter Elam of Mulberry Grove.  Mr. Elam passed away many years ago.  

On August 31, 1886, Mrs. Elam was married to W.A. Ray, and he, with one 

daughter, Mrs. Mattie Palmer of Evansville, Ind., survives.  One son, 

Edgar, died several years ago.  She is also survived by two half brothers, 

Mr. Taylor of this city, and Winslow Taylor of Pleasant Mount township, 

three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.



Mr. and Mrs. Ray observed their golden wedding anniversary Aug. 31, 1926.  

[sic] She was a member of the Methodist church of Mulberry Grove, where 

they had lived since 1902.
