F. JANES - OBITUARY B. F. Janes, whose illness has been mentioned from time to time in the News, passed away last Friday after a lingering illness. He was buried Sunday in the Salubria cemetery beside his wife who preceded him several years ago. Mr. Janes came to this valley 34 years ago, homesteading the 160 on which he has lived ever since. He was one of the pioneer farmers of the valley and followed farming until he was appointed postmaster at Salubria nearly twenty years ago. He held this position for many years until the office was discontinued. He was active in politics and in the social life of the town of Salubria. Frank was a friend to every one. He had no enemies -- at least, not to the knowledge of the editor of this paper, he knew for over 20 years. Benjamin Franklin Janes was born in Janesville, Wis., May 30, 1840. He crossed the plains in 1859 and settled in Nevada. Later he served with the Indian scouts in California, returning to Nevada in 1958 and settled in Reno. He was married to Harriet Percival Weston January 1, 1874. Six children were born to them, five of whom survive them. They are: Mrs. J. L. Sears, Cambridge, Mrs. O. G. Chamberlain, Toppenish, Wash., Frank of Weiser and George and Roy of Cambridge. There were five sisters and two brothers.
